Those Cubbies are emptying out the clubhouse...Jerry your next on the bench to be traded....maybe to the Reds for a player to be named later!

Fire sales of players in Washington and Chicago. Two biggest headscratchers are St Louis who are already out of it getting 2 old pitchers, and Colorado who did not let anyone go but picked up a player.

I am just kind of curious of what any Cardinals fans thought of the St Louis manager sitting in the dugout like a cadaver while his pitcher walks 5 consecutive batters, including 4 with the bases loaded?

At least it's not to the damn Yankees like poor ole Rizzo. I would prefer the Reds over Milwaukee (Ryan Braun soured me on the Brewers), White Sox or the Cardinals.
Bryant to the Giants didn't make me sad nor did Baez to the Mets (home run in the first game, 5 strike outs in the second game). I guess losing Kimbrel to the White Sox won't matter since the team is being gutted.

Just watched Adrian Beltre be inducted into the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame prior to their game tonight. What a class act! One of a handful of Rangers players I have seen in person who was worth the price of a ticket all by themselves. (Fergie Jenkins, Nolan Ryan, and Pudge Rodriguez are the others).
In 2011 I was working in Phoenix. One day I went to the Rangers spring training site to watch some of their practice workouts, and later that day to a game. As I was wondering around the “back fields” watching batting practice and various drills I happened on a field where a coach was hitting ground balls to Adrian Beltre at third base. As Beltre fielded one ground ball the coach would hit another one. Over and over and over, no time between. I watched this for at least 20-30 minutes, fascinated by it. Each time, Beltre would field the ball hit to him, throw a strike to first base, and immediately get into position to catch the next ball, already on its way to him. All this was interesting to watch but one thing stood out, and still amazes me - Beltre never looked at first base! Regardless the angle from which he had to make the throw, he had his eyes on the next ball he had to catch. But the throws were on-target.
He will no doubt be in the MLB Hall of Fame when he’s eligible.

I gotta feel for the Rangers fans here. The offense fights and scraps to put a go ahead run on the board, then the defense makes an error to continue the inning and the pitching gives up a grand slam and the game.

Yep, that’s pretty much the way it’s been going this year. Most games they start at least five, sometimes as many as seven rookies if the pitcher is a rookie. They play hard but they’re just overmatched in a lot of games. And like you said, pitching is usually their downfall. But they’re fun to watch if you can take the drama.

Since the Cubs got rid of the core of their team, they don't even know where the corner is.

I guess that's to be expected when you tear down the team and start over. It's all about the $$$$$. Good players expect huge salaries. But then why not, the owners expect big bucks, thus the $8-$10 beer. Sports (all sports) have become big business.
What's the secret to the teams that have good success year after year?

Unfortunately I can totally relate.

Hoping the Nats avoid another 100 loss season, but that's not looking good for the hO's, Rangers, DBacks or Pirates.

Cardinals have had the hottest team in baseball during the last month of the season but still won’t catch Milwaukee. They’ve all but clinched the second Wild Card in the NL though - Cards would have to lose all 6 of their remaining games while the Reds or Philthies win all of theirs. I guess stranger things have happened though.
Hope they don’t burn out and fizzle when the playoffs start.

The Dodgers or the Giants, whichever team the Cards play in the one game winner take all should be shaking in their boots to have to play a team as hot as the Cardinals are. Whichever it is imagine a 100 + win team going out in one game. Every managers nightmare.

I think Ken's right, the Cards are peaking at the exact time they need to make the playoffs interesting.

I’m just hoping the Cardinals aren’t a meteor, shining brightest just before burning out when they enter the playoff atmosphere. No way they can stay as hot as they’ve been on this current record-setting 16 game win streak. I’d like to see them clinch the playoffs in the next game or two and then start getting some rest and setting up the pitching for the playoff season.
But I’m torn whether it will be good if the Dodgers and Giants go down to the last day fighting for the NL West championship while the Cards can relax for a few days just knowing they got a wild card playoff berth and that’s the best they can do, or if relaxing takes the “edge” off.

I think the only remaining real contests are Atlanta/Philly (one wins division, one goes golfing) and Yankees/Red Sox (Wild Card home field advantage). With 4 or 5 games left it's about all sewn up.

In the NL West the Giants and Dodgers are playing for that same Wild Card/home field advantage - who gets potential home field advantage through the playoffs versus who has a one-game sudden death wild card playoff game.

Yeah, forgot that one. With the way the Dodgers have been trailing SF all year, I doubt there will be any changes.
Many thought it wouldn't happen (I was sceptical myself back in April) but it won't be long now until the Post starts.

Seattle and Toronto are still in this, should the Red Sox decide they're not up for the Post.

It's official- Philly out, Atlanta in. Only contest now is American Wild Card. Boston and Seattle are tied for the second spot.
Cards most likely get to play a 1 gamer in LA, could this be the upset of the year?
