Great looking blades, tongue and QS!
Here's a handy steel chart I picked up somewhere.
Cool to see the chart, any idea where 1095 fits in? Or Case surgical stainless? Thanks for the chart.

I've read Tru-Sharp Surgical Stainless is comparable to 420HC. Isn't 1095 comparable to AUS-8?

1095 is high carbon steel (not stainless).
AUS8 is stainless steel.

no guesses on that then.

I'd say this is pretty much a fixed blade. Been a while since I showed this.

Could be Erwin. For any who are not persuaded of that, it is an accurate replica of a Viking sword found in the moat of an English Castle. Most Vikings carried axes and spears. Swords were carried by high ranking or at least unusually prosperous Vikings.

This superb replica is of the Cawood Viking Sword one of the most well preserved of Viking swords. It was found in the mud near Cawood castle. Some say in the moat, some say in the nearby river. It is judged to be from the 11th century.
The original is in the Yorkshire Museum. For Museum Replicas this was made by Paul Chen/Hanwei.
The blade came with a very good sharp edge. I am told that it is easy to develop an edge of extreme sharpness for those who wish. Since it was going to be banging into shields, chain mail etc. I think the issue edge is probably more practical. It is said that the leather sheath is typical of the period.
Attributes
Overall Length 35 5/8"
Blade Length 29 5/8"
Handle Length 4"
Weight 2 lbs / 7 oz
Material 5160 High Carbon Steel
Cost about $315. For the quality and accuracy of this sword, I think it is an exceptional value.

Beautiful Garry!

I have a friend who hand-forges swords and sells them on etsy! If you like swords, perhaps take a look at his! It's
www.etsy.com , and search Saxonforge! Read the reviews as well!

Yes John, you would definitely feel you were a King, or at least a wandering Viking nobleman. I don't have many swords: four Japanese and this one Western Sword. But it is inescapable, when one picks up a well made sword one sort of feels the spirit of that sword.

A couple new arrivals A Bear & Sons bird and trout and an Old Hickory hunter
The Old Hickory is similar to and suffers from the same "no guard" ailment as this Russell Green River hunter that I picked up last year.
