Gotta agree with Perry...She's purdy.

.....looks like a nice leather sheath also.

Pinnah;don't have a hard time loving those Bucks they'll grow on ya

Sasquatch; That a very knice knife the sheath is quite like my Schrade I like the looks of those handles don't know if there as tough as Delrin handles

Thanks guys. The handle scales are "staglon" very reminiscent of the Schrade Uncle Henry knives. I'll let you know how they hold up. The sheath seems to be top grade leather and well made. I'm going to give it a dose of Red Wing boot oil to soften and waterproof it. I'm still looking for an original Schrade Sharpfinger though.

I had one of those Buck 500s years ago when I first got married. I sold it and a leather jacket to pay the gas and electric bill. I hated to part with it (the jacket too for that matter)

but we do what we must sometimes.

A single man could live cold and in the dark but don't try it if you're married!!!!

I'm not sure if staglon and durlin are the same. Maybe one of the other guys can enlighten us.

I looked at the listing and it calls the handle staglon in one place and delrin in another so they may be the same material. I'm thinking that staglon is a name used for delrin made to resemble stag.

Ohhhh, a married man can too, it just tends to be a whole lot colder and there's a lot more reasons to fear the dark.

I noticed that the tang stamp on this Bear and Sons is a bit different than my other B&S knives. There are a total of eight stars on either side of the Bear MGC Logo and USA. This is my first fixed blade knife from B&S, the others are all folders. Does anyone know if this is a dating system B&S has started or is it just something they do on their fixed blades?

On page 5 of the Bear and Son Cutlery 2011 product guide it says how the Dot System works. "Count the stars on the tang stamp, take that number away from 2020 and it lets you know the year the knife was manufactured". They show an illustration of three different styles of tang stamps using that system. If this is accurate, your knife was made this year 2012. Treefarmer

That's what I love about posting here! The knowledge base is broad and deep. Thank you very much for that information Treefarmer.

I'll have to get a copy of that product guide.

My red scale no bolster Imperial Scout is a pretty permanent left pocket knife.
Either my SRM 710 or 763 are the most likely clipped knives.
Variable is right pocket. Last couple days A Camillus Easy Open has been in there.

Gardogg, way to hang in there during the down time. One of my old hiking buddies is an Old Testament professor. We were complaining to each other about our work once when he noted, "You know, the problems with work are very old. Old enough to be our old stories. You know... as in... "by the sweat of your brow.."?" That's only a comfort in the misery loves company sort of way, but I probably think about every day I walk across the threshold of the door going into work.
Or, there's Utah Phillips who asked, "Whatever made you think you could give your mind to your employer for 8 hours a day and think they would give it back to you undamaged?"
Most of this week, the carry has been my Opinel #9. I've bonded with this $15 dollar knife in ways I can't begin to describe. It's the one knife I feel nervous and unprepared when I don't have near me. Nuts, isn't it?
Still, I went to sleep last night dreaming of a US made camper with the awl replaced with folding scissors. Wouldn't that be cool? Spear blade, cap lifter, can open opener and scissors. I think I'd toss off the Opinel for a while for a knife like that....
