Len Kasper leaving Chicago Cubs for the White Sox after 16 seasons, which matches Harry Caray's 16-year career with the Cubs. He will fill an open spot in the White Sox's radio booth. Chris Myers Expected to Fill Vacancy, whoever the heck that is.

Well, he wasn't no Harry Cary but then who is. I liked him. To each their own.

I grew up listening to Harry Caray when he was the Cardinals radio voice. Really shocked me when he left St. Louis and went to the White Sox and then the Cubs, but I was just a kid at the time. Sorta like losing a friend. It’s interesting how, when you listen to someone several hours a day for years (especially someone you enjoy) they become like family.
The Rangers have had several like that who have been broadcasting their games for years. The current broadcasters, Eric Nadel on radio (since 1979) and former player and GM Tom Grieve on television (since 1995) seem like they’ve been there forever. Nadel was inducted into the MLB HOF a few years ago. Both have reached the age now that they are taking a lot of time off - I think Grieve now only does home games.

Thanks, I looked up the Nats schedule. Any word on when they're allowing fans in the stands, Jerry? If you've been inoculated, why not?

Not a whisper John.
The Cubs roster for this season sure has changed. Old names, new names and some were a Cub, then they weren't and now they are again. Makes a feller dizzy.

Hey! Spring training games start in two more weeks. Cubs pitchers & catchers start workouts day after tomorrow, Wednesday Feb 17th.
I'm eager to see how many of the spring training games will be broadcast by Marquee Network.

Could be worse. They predict that the Orioles don't have a snowballs chance in Hades. Seven months will tell the tale.

My goodness me mates, lookie at who's sitting in the top 5...
Ah, you all know how it goes. We have a strong opening to the season, then things just gas out. It's like after half the games, we loose the will to win...
I blame it on no fighting spirit, the want to win. Good baseball died out back in the 90's, all they care about now, is $$$.
Now with the bending of the knee to the masquerading marxists, and selling out to china, I'm done with professional sports.
I'll stick with high school sports, where they actually play just to play.

They have those sources already mentioned plus the revenue sales of jerseys, T-shirts, hats and so on, plus the season ticket holders. Most of the baseball teams have a no refund policy so if you buy tickets, whether for a single game, partial or full season ticket package and the games aren't played you get tickets to another game but not a refund.
The owners are multi-billionaires with income from other sources. Sports is a hobby, not their major source of income. They may whine but they ain't hurting too bad. Neither are the players.
The ones hurting are the ushers, ticket takers, concession sellers, etc. Most are seasonal workers. They are unemployed or have had their incomes significantly cut.

Of course, them elites make darn sure their big bucks keep on rollin' in; all while everyone else hurts, economies crash, governments go off the deep end, ect. ect.
Well, we sure don't live in a perfect world, that's for sure. And when you got guys like BG's, sico narcissists, they enjoy causing mayhem and ruin...

Back to baseball. Cubs have reportedly signed closer Pedro Strope (think hat cocked left) to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training camp. Geez Louise.

He will be 35 years old in June. I was glad when the Cubs dumped him but like a bad penny, here he is again. Hopefully he will stay in the minors.

Arrieta resigned with the Cubs after his 3 years in Philly. Can he still be effective? Only costing the Cubs $6 mil

The Cubs made a number of moves, but I don't see any that will improve the team much over last season.
Ahhhhhh......talking of baseball with a foot of snow on the ground.

The Rangers now seem to be committed to re building - some nice potential, especially pitching, in the farm system but mostly two or three years away. Gonna be some struggles for a while.
On the bright side I'm encouraged by what the Cardinals have done. They're no sure thing but the NL Central has no clear cut standout teams, on paper anyway. I like the Cards chances. But that's why they play the games.
