All About Pocket Knives

Well....the first cabin camping mission is officially completed.

Had lots of fun....ate like kings....sawed and cut plenty of brutally hard wood.....not like maple or oak, but like red oak, sweet gum.....just a lot of hard work to burn it! Was worth every minute....

Good stuff fellers, you da man Scott good on you bro. I had this great outdoors come to a bit ago. A Cooper hawk ( or chicken hawk as we call'em) flew into my front door, kinda stunned him ,but he's okay the Cardinal he was after got away

Nice photos of the Cooper Hawk, Big homer. Some years I will have one hunting my bird feeder, have not seen one this year.

You are not alone Dave.. Me and the wife travel to view them.. Went on a hike a few weeks ago and has an eagle circle over our head so close (20-30yds) and then landed in a tree about 20yds from us.. Watched it till it flew.. We go to Hawk Mt Sanctuary by Hamburg, Pa and watch the fall migration.. We LOVE raptors... John

As a kid I read about Hawk Mt. Its on my bucket list. Am I correct in thinking they take the same route north in the spring?

That's really cool John! They are magnificent.

Long story short... Up until 1993, I think I had seen maybe 1 or 2 Bald Eagles in my life. In June of '93 I flew from South Florida, to Anchorage AK. I went on a float fishing trip and camped on the Kenai Peninsula, on the Kasilof River. I counted over 200 Bald Eagles the first morning... they were everywhere! As a side note: I happen to be in the Delta lounge waiting for my last flight and there was only 1 other person in the lounge... I spent an hour talking with Susan Butcher. The famed Iditarod dog musher and 4 time winner. That was an amazing coincidence.

Here is a raptor that most of us in the USA do not see without some effort. There is a refuge in Texas, Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge which is the only place I have ever seen Caracaras. Also home to several other raptor species and a lot of other birds. I did not see the Attwater Prairie Chicken, but my only real reason for visiting that area was to spot a Caracara. I saw a few, and got really good looks.

THANK YOU ALLL for the raptor pics and stories... I think the migration north is a little more scattered.. QS if ya go to Hawk Mt Oct is the best time.. Migration of various raptors starts mid Sept but Oct is the best time.. Cold and windy is prime!! We did get to see our first Golden Eagles this past Sept and that was WAY Awesome!!!
