It’s an Eagle Lockback, honey jigged bone, AUS8 blade. Price was too good to be true for an Al Mar. Site I purchased it from didn’t show the country of origin. In the back of my mind I was thinking China as I’ve Never seen an Al Mar for $56. I thought why not? If it bears the name Al Mar it has to be a quality knife.
I was right. It was made in China and it’s great quality. Extremely tight tolerances.
Beautiful covers. I guess almost all knife makers are going to China these days. Higher profits when they use an unlimited supply of people working 18 hour days in sweat shops for next to nothing.
Most of the quality American knife makers have gone out of business. It’s a shame.
BTW, you being Canadian, what can you tell me about Grohmann knives? I’ve admired one of their folders but never seen one in person. Are they any good ? Made in Nova Scotia if I’m not mistaken.

I went through a similar dilemma before I bought this Eagle, Oscar.
I'd wanted one with black micarta covers for the longest time, but after waiting what seemed a millennium for the price to come down I threw in the towel and bought this one. I too was surprised at the low price for an Al Mar, so I did the research and found these are made in China which never has been a sore spot with me so I pulled the trigger. Please don't quote me on this, but my understanding is that these have a thumb-stud whereas the expensive copies just a nail-nic. Even though it comes from China, IMO it's very well constructed and I doubt I'd know the difference if the 2 models were side by side.
Regarding Grohmann knives, I'll tell you what I told another fella who asked me about them, I know absolutely zip, zero, nada, zilch about them, other than they're made in Nova Scotia. Good thing Jerry was able to put you straight on them though.
It's not my intention to step on anyone's feelings, but I find them butt-ugly and always have!
And whut-up with all you folks who think that just because I live in Canada I know every little detail about the entire country, eh? lol, just in case!

Looks pretty much identical to mine. Only thing that isn’t perfect is the walk and talk.
I don’t think it’s the spring. The tolerance is extremely tight. I could send it back to exchange but it’s all good. I used Break Free on the pivot which improved it. On the plus side, it locks up tighter than Zorro’s headband.
Zero play. ! It should also loosen up some with use. I’m happy with it.

I found out this morning that Sal Glesser, owner and founder of Spyderco, modified this exact same model to make his first prototype before he started making knives.

And here is the Silver Falcon that Sal Glesser modified to make his first prototype. This was his first attempt to see how well a hole in the blade would work for one hand opening.

Kinda cool. I guess my knife is a blast from the past to at least one other person besides me.

It’s not too bad. The Break Free has made it difference. Always does. I use it to lubricate all my folders pivots. I’m sure I could get an exchange but it’s not bad enough to be worth the trouble of sending it back. I can live with it. It would be truly great if EVERY knife we have is 100% perfect but that’s never going to happen. I guess I’m becoming less pessimistic in my old age……
