All About Pocket Knives

Well, there goes the hobby budget for 2 and a half months. Only other purchase I've made since was a SAK I'd bid (and forgot I had) on and a small lot I discovered the seller of the SAK had with some nice stuff in it before I made the PayPal payment for this group I'd been accruing for four months with the guy who picked them up for me. Cost $250, which is a LOT by my standards. There's about 50 items in this group, and consists of about 3/4 of the items on my Matchbox and Hot Wheels list for the year. A lot of it was the more expensive premium lines, a few five packs, two nine-packs, the Matchbox Convoy tractor-trailers (which just got re-released this year after a long hiatus) and larger-scale Working Rigs models. Typically, I don't find them in stores, and accept that I can't. I had an individual offer to pick them up at cost (well, rounded to the nearest dollar; which was his small finder's fee), and apparently the stores where he is are better at stocking than we are here.

I used my Klein small lockback to open the box, and I've had to cut a few plastic ties (about the thickness of a rubber band, but not stretchy) as well. And I've just started working my way through the box. I didn't think it would be delivered on Columbus Day, since it's a holiday. But they did this morning. Seems they seem to always deliver packages on holidays as of late.

Repaired several ball marks on the greens, couple of them were even mine. Cleaned out the grooves on my irons and wedges. Cut some bird food packages open. Opened a knife from the bay, and sliced up a big red . I think that's about all, but the day ain't over.

Chipping bark off a tree trunk for a project with my EnZo. EnZo Knives are top quality knives imported from Finland.

I didn’t get a picture of it, but I sharpened a carpenter’s pencil with this Kutmaster.

Morning , cutting up some pepperoni sticks for snacking on later while helping a friend do some fencing, will slice up a Apple or 2 as well then put in a ziplock to take out to bow stand with me. Have a good one out there. That’s a 4 line Cam ,EO, Really like this one for the pocket.

Sliced off some good ole smoked sausage, cut up some peppers 🌶 onions and garlic for my big Joe scramble what's not to love.

Had to separate a couple bags of charcoal.

Breaking up an old couch to fit inside a dumpster. Cutting away the fabric with my Leatherman PST II. The half serrated blade came in handy today. The PST is one of my favorite EDC multi-tools, strong, small and lightweight, but it can still get a lot of work done and then open lot's of bottles of beer (after 5:00 PM of course ).

I used this ugly sucker to open seed and fertilizer bags today. Treefarmer

Late yesterday evening we went to vote - the ballots were packaged in tight & thick plastic wrap. The guy issuing our ballots tried to break the plastic open by hand and couldn't, then he fished out his keys to try with those. I handed him my pocketknife (old Schrade USA jackknife) and asked him if this wouldn't work better. He gratefully accepted and remarked he should be carrying his own. A small pocketknife contributed to the free exercise of democracy! OH

Cutting wrapping paper for my sons birthday present

I was trying to open some cans today and the Cheapo-China can opener won't work after 6 months. So I whipped out my Ol' CAMCO scout knife and opened the cans. Made in America! And still useful after 50(?)+ years...

Added a new electrical circuit in the shop today. Couldn’t find my wire stripper pliers so stripped a lot of 12/2 Romex wire with the sheepfoot blade on my Case 6347.

Power still off at my house. So still using camp stove for cooking. So me and the missus decided to cook chili tonight, and she couldn't find her manual can opener. So while she was sauteing the beef, onions & peppers, I was opening all the can goods with the SAK.

I can't figure out the electric can opener. I have a French-made Nogent Le Kim, which works pretty good (hand crank), but I prefer my SAK. Mechanical and electric can openers struggle with 32 oz. and bigger cans. SAKs, Scouts, and especially P-51s don't.

Had to make a new pin to keep the feed box lid up; which is also used through the hasp to help keep it shut. Cut to length with Vic GAK saw, whittled and tapered down with First Tactical Sidewinder Safety Knife's PE blade (GAK is serrated), which I keep in my coat (for the first time since some time in March, I've had to get out a coat).

Used supertool at lunch too cut sandwich up, and winchester large cokebottle too cut some boxes for my kitty. Oh, and cracked open 2 new matchbox cars .

Looks good Scott!! Used to be a few trees scattered around the Ranger training areas of Egland. Also some Satsuma oranges scattered there. Good eats when you in the boonies.

Scott, have you run across any sour oranges in your ramblings? Over on the opposite side of the state from where you are, where I grew up, there were a lot of wild oranges in the hammocks. My father-in-law had told us about cow hunting many years ago and running across the wild orange trees. The trees were usually very tall and spindly reaching up to get sun light between the oaks and Cabbage palms (Sabal palm) that commonly grow on the hammock soils. In a lot of hammocks you could find a picking device leaning against the sweet orange trees. It would be a long wooden pole with a small hand made wire basket with several stiff wire fingers protruding up from the basket. With this implement a feller could reach and harvest a few oranges while they passed through the hammock either hunting or working the cattle. The hammock land was usually a bit higher in elevation than the surrounding prairie land. Some times the orange trees would be from an abandoned homestead and others were started from birds dropping the seeds. Usually the sour oranges had very thick peel. The ones I have personally seen were on the west side of the St.John's River marsh. I also recall finding several grapefruit trees in a hammock on the west side of Lake Harney, a very wide spot in the St. Johns, in Seminole County. Those probably were from an old homestead for sure. I imagine all that land has been cover up with houses by now.
A comment concerning the sour oranges, the old timers sometimes made a drink similar to lemonade with them.

Now back to the topic of the thread, I used my light weight Victorinox this morning to harvest a couple of Bell peppers for a Greek salad Miss Joy is putting together. Treefarmer
