All About Pocket Knives

I have a new knife to hunt for Q. The lines of that Trident are superb. It looks like it’s made for heavy duty work. I love thumb studs and it looks like they placed it where it wouldn’t interfere with sharpening, which I like a lot.

Normally, I'm not all that crazy about knives like this (prefer smooth, sexy, rounded, graceful curves over straight lines and sharp angles); but, I was drawn to the Trident because of the Wharncliffe blade, and when I discovered it was such a well-made knife (made in Seki, so of course it is!), I liked it even more. (And I think the graceful curves of the Cocobolo wood grain help to mitigate the rectangular, "boxy" look of the frame.)

I posted this MOKI Kronos in other threads, but it definitely belongs here as well. Great knife! (And not bad looking, either. The amber bone stag is every bit as nice as Queen's ACSB, IMHO.)

Q, any Moki looks great and the amber bone stag is one of my favorites.

I got in another A.G. Russell small lockback. I thought I already had this one but I don’t. The handles are cocobolo and the blade is ATS-34. I carry one just like it with Chinese Quince Burl-wood handles and it’s one of my favorites. If you find a Regent Aristocrat, it’s the same knife. Not sure which knife master made these in Japan, but all the ones that I have are typical high quality and fit and finish. I believe most of these were made around 1990.

Got these two Seki made knives in yesterday. The top one is a Browning Buckmark with white Micarta handles.
The Yachtman’s knife is something really special. Made by Master Hattori back in the 80’s for Jet Aer Corp. This knife is rock solid. The blade has a nice snap when it opens and closes. The Marlin Spike locks in nicely and the release works great. Pakkawood handles and all stainless construction.

Two real beauties Mark! Really like the shape and covers on the Browning! And oh my goodness, if the Hattori didn't have the spike and lanyard...! EDIT: Wow, your Browning sure wasn't around for long!

This is a front lock folder designed and made by Mr. Masui of Hiro knives, one of the Seki Cut knives. The spear point blade has a swedge and a Rockwell hardness of 60.

The steel is VG 10.

Garry, that is one sweet knife. Love the wooden handles on that blue. The blade design is elegant. Being a Hiro knife I would think that is a San Mai blade? I can’t tell from the pictures.

Mark, your Marlin Spike knife looks to be a very functional design and it looks elegant and powerful. I bet when in hand the blade sits naturally in the ready to cut position.
I just sold an older original Hen & Rooster Marlin Spike knife so being 'spikeless' now i'm feeling drawn to your 'Spiker'.

KJ, it does fit nicely in hand. I told my wife when I first handled it that I just wanted to cut some boxes down to size with this, it just felt good in hand and ready for anything.

I’ve developed a curiosity about scout knives lately. Found this one the other day. It’s not your typical Japanese made knife by any means. It certainly is a Japanese angle on a traditional American pattern.
Made by Master G Sakai. This is a Fieldman knife with cocobolo handles. The biggest plus on this is the blade steel, it’s ZDP-189. ZDP-189 is the same steel as Chowry X.and has a Rockwell hardness of 70. Now that is some hardness. This knife should hold an edge for a long time. The fit and finish is typical Japanese quality, very high. I like how easy these blades and tools are to open. Some Scout knives have such strong springs that put too much pressure on the small blades and tools, but not this one. I could see carrying this knife. I can’t decide if I will sell it or keep it.
This knife was made exclusively for the Japanese market. All the paperwork inside is Japanese. Lucky to have acquired it.
The very first pocketknife I ever used or carried was a scout knife, I guess I’m coming full circle.

Surprisingly (to me, anyway), this Smith & Wesson is a Seki-made Mini Trapper
This is the first (and only) Seki-made Smith & Wesson I've ever seen.

I received the first of these 2 knives from Mark at SSk awhile back, so when I spotted this 2nd one in his store I figured I'd complete the set and bought it! It's a 7" oal Marbles lockback/SS spear-point blade, fully engraved NS bolsters, NS pins, brass liners, and dark horn covers with white streaking. The 2 knives are identical, but for more white streaking in the new one. The last pic is to compare the 2 knives!
