All About Pocket Knives

A Christmas gift from my wife. I had shown her this one on the 'bay and then promptly forgot about it. I was very surprised and pleased to get this yesterday, having lived in Allentown for many years and still live nearby.

edit: 3 inch Wolfertz with cell covers. Great snap on both blades.

Thanks guys. You're right Lyle, she's a keeper. You weren't rebuilding the coke ovens at the mill were you? I believe they are gone now. Beth Steel's flagship location is essentially an industrial relic and museum with a casino next door.

Don't know about pecking order.Gray had both and he sold me the one in lesser condition.

Greedy, thanks for the info on the H&R reclining lion, that does look like an exact stamp. That is a Beautiful, Old fancy champagne knife you have there. As TJ mentioned, Goins has listed C. Lutters & CIE c. 1840-present with the Lion marking. I do not know but overall it looks to be from around the 1840-50s as mentioned before.

He's got'em Dimitri, Bt ,great example showing typical Challenge jigging. Some of these old knives just did not get used for whatever reason.

Bt looks to be unused.

It is very interesting how knives can go unused for so many years? This was with a few other knives, all of decent and much later make, but this was the only unused one. Go figure?

Here is an etch you don't see too often.

If i am reading it correctly the etch says "Bingham's BBB(in circle)Finest Steel".
I have a 3 1/2" Pearl Equal End Pen with "C.Bingham(arch)/Co" stamped on both tangs and master blade is etched: "Bingham's BBB(in circle)Best Brand". The circle around BBB in the above knife has "Bingham's Best Brand Cleveland" around the perimeter. The circle in the etch on my Bingham is plain, no words or letters.
So there are 2 similar "BBB" etches. Were they used concurrently or is one older ? Probably need a dedicated Bingham collector to answer this.
My understanding is that Ulster Knife Co. made the Bingham branded knives. Do you know if this is correct ? or if other knife manufacturers were also involved with Bingham ?

I think Mike Losicco has an abiding interest in Bingham's Best Brand knives.

Maybe he will opine with some useful information.

I think he has an original catalog, hopefully dated, and that might give some idea as to the dates on at least one of the two etches.

I' ve had a couple with that same etch that were German made.Looked to be 50's to 60's vintage.

Do you have a knife with "Bingham" on the tang that was made in Germany ? I thought they were all USA made knives.

Attached is a photo of the knife with the Bingham etch. The tang stamp is W. Bingham Germany. This knife is very similar in construction to a Boker I have in the same pattern. The second photo shows three knives stamped W. Bingham Cleveland O. and these are older and produced in the USA.
