OK, back to being serious and just for "What Tha's?".
Yesterday I saw a farmer's jack marked MONTGOMERY-WARD"S. I think that is a much more rare stamping than "WARDS".
Pretty worn, from what I could see. It was in a small compression display box, not easily opened, so I never saw the blades.
I did take a couple of cell phone pics and I'll upload one in a while.

I've wanted one of these Farmer's Jacks for several years. I don't go nuts over older knives and I finally got lucky and found this new (2009) Queen. I was the highest bidder tonight so it's coming to Papa. I'm just a little excited. I searched the Internet for quite a while and cannot find another like it.
Sellers pictures.

Congrats Jerry. I was keeping an eye on that one too, but it went just a bit higher than I was willing to go. A very cool knife!

Those are nice knives Jerry, tickled to death you got it.These come up occasionally. There were 7 variations made,100 each in 2009.
green wormgroove?
fireoak?
stag
stag with with ATS34(which is stamped on the shield)
winterbottom
pearl
matodon ivory
The only one I need and am watching for is the mastodon ivory.I don't have access to my computer now but will show a group picture when possible.I think most of them are posted throughout this thread.

There are 4 of these 2009 Titusville farmers jacks on eBay now,if anyone's interested.Somehow,

,those guys at MVP get a lot of bids and their price up there in a couple days, seemingly on all their auctions.

By the way,I am casually looking for one of these in mastodon ivory.I like the old knives, but if you see one of these in mastodon I would appreciate a heads up.I have all the others.
Jerry,I think I may have traded that knife you have to 54 rodgers in on that etched Challenge I have.Boy ,I know he got about 3 knives, can't be sure though.Tough getting old like Charlie.

Yes,but I don't remember exactly which other knife I traded him. I had two of those stags, but for some reason ,I can't remember where the extra went. I'll ask .

Thanks Josh,I hope to tell you more about it later.
I guess it's proper name might be a budding and pruning knife. The budding blade makes it what I call a rooster comb, although that name(rooster comb) has been synonymous with what Levine terms farmers jacks around my neck of the woods. Before I got absorbed by these ,all I thought was a farmers jack were knives like the Case '048 pattern.

Jerry,I asked him and that was not the one I had.I thought it looked like too nice of a handle.
That's how I determined which to trade.

It would have been really neat to have one that originally belonged to you but I like it no matter where it came from.

Fellows, I just could not resist bidding on one of the Queens. I think they have one of the most interesting blade etches out there. This one came today.

Thanks for the kind comments!
I have a question about the body shape of this knife. Is there an accepted name for it? I know that Case calls their whittlers Seahorse Whittlers. But seahorse seems to be a fairly new term; maybe coined by Case?
I think I have seen it described as a serpentine sleeveboard. That certainly seems to fit. I am curious because I have gradually decided that it is my favorite shape for a pocket knife, with the Case Seahorse and Bulldog whittlers being my favorite carry.

Hey,hurricane alley,that's the way I got started.
Levine calls them farmers jacks(LG4 pg. 189,LG5 pg. 195),in the south we call them rooster combs*¹(Voyles Antique Knives 2nd ed. pgs 60,184,209,239,301,430,460). English call them pruners or gardeners knives(see pg.4 of this thread). Others (Schrade,Keen Kutter called pruning )call them budding and pruning knives.(Schrade Cat E pg. 87)
Jerry's and your knives were based off *² the Catalog cut in the Schrade Cat. E pg. 100 cut of the Schrade S7303 (this is what's used in Collectors Knives 2001),although they left off the "rooster comb" *¹.
GEC (they're coming

) calls them John Chapmans,google

. I like that connotation. Welcome to my world,I just carry one with me when I go to shows.Visual aids are best....
