Here's a Schrade Cut Co. I just picked up. Needs a little TLC, but has great half stops.

This one was made by Camillus for Imperial/Schrade. The secondary blade is one of the nicest designed blade profile that I own.

That is the serial number. It was for warranty registration.
Uncle Henry had a one year guarantee against loss when that knife was made.
You registered your knife when you purchased it and if you lost it within that first year, they would send you a new one.

can you give me a time frame on when it was made
and also do you think that five bucks was a pretty good price on it
thank you

I don't know for sure. they started with just numbers then want through with an letter prefix of A, then B, C, etc.
After going through the alphabet they used AA, AB, AC, etc, then BA, BB, BC, etc until they finally stopped numbering them entirely, and I think they dropped the one year loss guarantee as well.
The pattern was introduced about 1978, so I would guesstimate your was made in the early 1980s.
Hope this helps.

The 38th annual Oregon Knife Collectors Association show was last weekend.
The show was smaller this year, 380 tables as opposed to the usual 500+ due to a variety of reasons.
The show this year turned out to be a Schrade fest for me!
I found a 41OT in much better condition than the one I had in my collection.
I also picked up a nice 156OT, Little Finger.
The coupe de grace of my Schrades from the show was a nice carbon steel 171UH, Pro Hunter, second edition.
The sheath of the 171 needs to be re-sewn, but the knife is my first 171.
It is a fist full of knife!
I also picked up a nice 227UH, Folding Bowie.
The 227 would make a nice user. It will likely end up in my store, along with a 34OT, (near mint); a Schrade 286 Barlow for customizing; a great 8OT and an Irish version of the 8OT pattern. I also picked up a nice Craftsman version of the Ulster 58OT.
I came home with about as much money as I left with and a bunch of knives, several from trading.
I upgraded one piece in my collection (41OT) and added a new pattern (171)!
The show was a great success for me!
Oh, I almost forgot to add this awesome piece of Schrade memorabilia-
The ball cap was was the icing on the Schrade cake!

Dale, that cap is a beauty! So many of us wish we could have gone to the Show, but are grateful you could be there! I would also be grateful to get a little Spring around this place!

The postman brought me this lovely "Old Timer" 340T Stockman today. Buying the knife was the easy part. Now I need to learn about the company and it's history.
Seller states: Last of the "OLD TIMER"s line before the U.S. factory closed. Tang stamp reads "SCHRADE / N.Y. U.S.A. / 340T".
By the way. It came in a box for a 330T. If someone wants it send me a PM.

Nice lot of knives there Dale. The 41OT is a reasonably hard one to find.
Mr Rich nice 34OT. The Schrade NY USA 34OT was produced after 1973 and than they changed to Schrade USA 34OT. The Schrade Walden was made from 1964 to 1973.There is a few variation to collect.

Nice old Schrade there Rick,
I hope you do not blame me for geting you started, collecting Schrade.
The NY blade stamping is the most collectable of the production 34OTs
The 25th Anniversary Starling Silver with Bone handles is one to look out for.
I found an unfinished Starling Silver 34OT some time back for $18…. Ken

I blame you for getting me started collecting "real" Schrades.

I already have an "unreal" one.
Am I correct in stating that if it does not say U. S. A. it is made "elsewhere"?

Schrade also started to made some D'holder Fixed blade knives in 2000.
They used BG42 for the blade and bone handles... First Run of 500 with etched blade and then, another run of 500.
They sell for 10-20% of the price of a D'holder.
The finish on the Schrade is very good, I have never had a D'holder in my hand to tell the diferance... Ken

Yes, that is true, but if it does say U.S.A., it does not necessarily follow that the knife in question is a pre-2004 bankruptcy "real" Schrade. Stuart Taylor, who owns the Schrade trademarks and also some other ones, such as New York Knife, has had a number of runs of Schrade knives made for him by Bear and Son, Utica, and Great Eastern, all American companies. These usually have SCHRADE WALDEN in the tang stamp, but they are certainly NOT original Schrades. Even the legitimate Schrade knives from the 1980s and 1990s-2004 often had SCHRADE WALDEN stamps, although they had generally quit using that stamp in the summer of 1973. These later ones were mostly special or "limited" runs. To make things more interesting, Schrade actually moved from Walden to Ellenville in 1958, not 1973. Now then, if you have absorbed that information, consider this: Schrade, Imperial, Ulster and Camillus all did lots and lots of sharing of parts, jobs, employees, contracts, etc., etc., ad infinitum. Dale's charts on Schrades on this site are very informative, as are the tons of information on this site:
http://www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us/. There are actually three Schrade sites on the internet worth pursuing for information.

Not all the USA Schrade Knives have USA stamped on them. I have a 171UH and a bowie. These where special contract knife made by Schrade before they closed in 2004.
There is a few Bowie on Ebay that have been etched.

Thanks Cal, glad I could be of service.
There is a little story that goes with the hat.
A guy I know who used to work at a cutlery store said he found this on a shelf in a the back of an old cutlery store. It was down low and pushed way way to the back of the shelf, apparently undisturbed for years.
He said, "I thought you might like it."
My response; "Well yeah! Duh! Thank you!!!"
I have a few variations of Schrade hats, but this is the first one I have seen like this.
And to have it dated on the hat is extra special!
