Joe - that Schrade is nice. I am always worrying about obliterating the etch when I use polish, never tried Wenol.

Here is another Schrade - those folks at Schrade sure knew how to make a good looking handle out of Delrin.

Couldn't resist this old gunstock whittler. I love old celluloid handled knives but rarely acquire them. I occasionally do if I like the knife and the cost won't hurt me too bad if the handles go bad. This one meets the criteria - came in today's mail. Wilbert Cutlery Co. gunstock whittler, 3-1/2 inches long, all blades marked. Punch is marked Wilbert Cutlery on one side and U.S.A. Pat 833146 on the back.

Thanks y'all. It has a lot going for it even though it's been well used. The handles look good but I'm giving some thought to getting it re-handled, maybe jigged bone. Suggestions welcomed.

I'd wait till it showed signs of outgassing, those are really pretty scales. Stag or smooth bone would look good if and when.just mho

Thanks for the comments on the Wilbert gunstock whittler. With all ya'lls feedback and after coon-fingerin it a while I decided to sharpen up the blades and carry it a while. It just feels good in hand! Already too far gone to be a "safe queen" anyway.

Burnt stag Northwoods swell center.

Sweet stag on that swell-center, Ivoryman. A fine example of a Queen made Northwoods with steel that won't spot & rust like the GEC made Northwoods (which are made with 1095 steel).

Here's a C. Platts stag whittler I just picked up. Check out the half-swedge...I've never seen one with that before. ~Q~

Nice Northwoods, Ivoryman! Interesting swedge on that C.Platts, QTcut5, see lot's of pen blades with one sided swedges, not too many master blades though, nice knife!

Couple new-ish whittlers in my recent haul:

A couple of 6308 whittlers. 1972 and a 1965-69.

Popular thread I can tell. Gut feeling felt like I paid too much for this Case Classic in the first place. Lots of hype. And I'm a sucker for a whittler I admit. Some days bigger sucker than others. The seller descriptions said no cracks or chips in the bones. Found one. Now I know I paid too much. Another inaccurate description. Imagine that. Buyer beware. Last photo about a half inch from the main tang running into the brass liner, top scale in the picture.

This 5 dot is in my all time top 3 Case knives I own. Fit and finish is perfect. Exceptional snap on all the blades, which bed perfectly centered. I got a deal on it due to the plain bone sides - always liked the look. I paid 2x as much recently for an unused red bone in the same carpenters whittler pattern - sure looked pretty, but it was a huge disappointment - springs stood proud when blades extended on the 2 smaller blades, snap on the 2 small blades was lousey. Case quality is hit and miss, but when you get a really exceptional one, it's special ...

Ivoryman - that is a nice looking Case Classic. It seems to me that most of the Classics I see on Ebay are over priced. Beautiful knives, and I have just one, but kind of expensive.

John - I like that Case, plain bone and all. I keep meaning to get one of those, but do not have one yet.

Overpriced Dinadan, you nailed it. Especially when you get it home and realize it's cracked when it was sold as no cracks. Adding insult to pocketbook injury. Aaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrghhhhh.

Mail man just showed up with this. Could have bought three for the price of that Case Classic above. This one has no cracks, good looking bones, great snap, action, lock up, size, blades. Very happy with this one indeed. Won't get returned like that blue one above. Learned my lesson on that one.

I believe the Case Classics are all Queen builds. Ivoryman's whittler looks suspiciously similar to my Robeson Mastercraft "splitback" whittler, though the jigging pattern is completely different and the secondary blades are different.

Gotta agree that I greatly prefer the big ol' hoss whittler as a pattern, though. I have nearly as many of those as I do "traditional" whittlers/half-whittlers.

Here's one I've posted before (and probably will again); it's my all-time favorite (and most expensive) whittler...worth (almost) every penny. Only knife I own that has half-stops on the secondary blades. Great knife...certainly the best Case knife in my collection.

Going by the whittler definition that there is a split spring with the master nestled in between two small blades and one of those being a coping blade... I picked out 4 that loosely follow this definition. Actually, only 1 fits this definition precisely... the black scaled Schrade 836. The PSB 836 for some reason came from the factory with two little pens. The J.A. Henckels MOP has little left of it's blades and the file worked Camillus Senator Whittler #60, has one of it's small blades as a file. Anyway, here they are... (available light for photography was poor today)

This is my newest 80 USA era, i got in a trade with Jerry. Very nice knife. Great snap good color.

Dave - those are four fine whittlers. As far as I am concerned, they fit the whittler definition just fine. Regarding the blades being worn down, I have a few old knives like that, but I just could resist making a bid when no one else seemed interested.
