All About Pocket Knives

brought this home this morning.
I discovered a neighbor makes knives. This is my first, have ordered a knife for each mont for the rest of the year. This is a spec knife he had on hand. 31/2 " blade of CPM154 stainless, hand rubbed satin finish. handles are dyed, stabilized box elder burl w. black liners, black g10 pins.. His wife makes the sheaths. Ive got some nice designs coming including a 2 knife set with a bird & trout and a hunter with double sheath like the case sets. Couple other cool designs later.

Wow Rob, that is a nice knife. Looks like all your expectations were met with this. I can see why you would order more from him. That box elder is beautiful, I like wooden handles. Never heard of someone using g10 pins before, didn’t know they made pins out of g10. Looks good on this knife, nice touch.

Glad ya all liked it. The guy has a beautiful set of machines, 23 I counted. Multiple belt grinders, buffers, heat treating oven, hardness tester, commercial leather sewing machine and stuff I dont know what they are, hes getting a laser engraver next. I think he is more into the mechanics of the hobby than anything? as an electrical engineer he pays close attention to details.
Coouple of my orders are pretty much patterned after folders, a close copy of the moki kronos, a Buck 110 and 1 patterned after a fishtail. Mostly I am getting wood or carved stag bone handles. looking at his selection of handle materials, I could be happy just collecting that! Working on a double edged fighter with handle materials to resemble the vietnam campaigh ribbon, but he has never done the double edge before so well see how that shakes out. I feel very fortunate to have discoverd matt, only a couple miles away!!

From time to time, knives come to me too.

I like the folding silverware set. The two pocket knives are very interesting; they appear to have forks? And I can't make out the tang stamp; who made them? Great pick-ups!

Hi, Dan!
All are Bulgarian from the 70s. The set was produced in the state factory Petko Denev in the city of Gabrovo, and the two knives are from the factory "Hammer and Sickle" in the city of Veliko Tarnovo.
Because we Bulgarians have always paid a lot of attention to eating and drinking, many of the pocket knife models have a folding fork and a corkscrew.

I'd bet green money Jim's Remington is cooler than ANY other knife pick, Dan, including yours and mine!

In my box yesterday this very nice made in Japan Parker K404 8 1/2" oal gunstock slip-joint, with delicious butterscotch stag covers and only 1 spear-point blade, to match it's brother "Big Lou" model with white camel bone covers as seen in the bottom picture for comparison! I think, single Wharn spear or sheepsfoot blade gunstocks are just about my perfect knife, I just love em'! I apologize for the fog in my pictures, but I'm hoping my current laptop will crap-out soon so I can break out my brand new H/P laptop that hopefully has a better camera!

I received up a couple of "shallow end of the bay" knives in the mail the other day, a Klien and a little tiny Buck trapper. Just guessing, the Klein Tools is probably a Camillus. The little Buck is from China. However, it is very well made, it is NRA-ILA promotional knife. Treefarmer

Those 2 you posted today are pretty cool themselves. I'm especially attracted to the covers on your Klein, with their rich brown coloring and what looks like near perfect jigging.
Nice dark covers on your Buck as well. I find that if one can overlook the Chinese aspect you can end-up with some pretty decent knives.
I guess I'm one of few who actually like BIG heavy knives, but I can't help myself, if the knife doesn't feel substantial in-hand it doesn't inspire confidence in me. Lots of folks are the opposite, they like to barely feel the knife they're holding or how it rides in their pocket.
I've just recently been introduced to NON-locking slip-joints, and I'll tell ya, I keep picturing the blade closing unassisted on my knuckles, and as a result it will take some getting use to before I'd feel safe using one!
