Sorry, my mistake. The one in my collection that I was thinking about is a small Craftsman.

Tom, thanks for the information - your COAST knives are a new line to me then. By the way, Ann (Zoogirl) is the expert on Richards of Sheffield, she has shown quite a few over the years. OH

Old Hunter wrote: Sat Dec 19, 2020 4:04 pm Tom I’m thinking the COAST is a SFO for Coast to Coast Hardware (but I’m not sure). Looks like a decent pocketknife. OH
Thanks OH! ::handshake:: Appreciate your comment! ::super_happy::

Coast is a company from Portland, Oregon mostly known for making flashlights. They have over the years & still do also sell knives. The knives are contracted out & produced over seas. Used to be Ireland & Japan, but I guess now it's probably China. Was looking at a Coast flashlight just a few days ago in a hardware store over here & it was made in China. So I asked myself if they produce anything at all in Portland now days or just contract out all of their products. ::hmm:: I have one other Coast Jack knife that I bought from the same seller many weeks ago. ::tu:: It was stamped with Ireland. The second Coast posted above is stamped with Japan. Here are a few pictures of the first Coast I bought. ::tu::
There is an old American company Called Lodge, they make cast iron cook ware, they bought out another company from Portland, and took over their factory and still make cast iron cook ware there. Hope this answers your question about anything still made in Portland. ::tu::

Tom...your COAST folders look great. Nice little pocketknives. Last July, I picked up a sweet COAST fixed blade from Scott (TripleF). It has stacked leather handle with aluminum pommel. The blade is approx. 4.5 - 5" long.

Tom, unless I'm sadly mistaken (and I often am. Someone please correct me if I run off the rails with this one.) that Richards is a Loomfixer. You scored yourself a real beauty there. (plus that's the first Richards Loomfixer I've ever seen).

Wow! ::woot:: Cool! ::super_happy:: Hope your right! ::groove:: I always wanted to say I have a Loomfixer. ::super_happy:: It was a "buy it now" deal and when I saw it, it just got me excited so I jumped on it without giving myself much thinking time and then I thought..., "Oh you idiot, I bet you paid too much for this one!" ::dang:: It was €40 shipped. ::shrug:: If it's really a "Loomfixer" then I recon I did ok. ::nod::

Thanks for the Info Jerry! ::handshake:: Appreciate it! ::nod:: ::super_happy::

Maybe it's how much sway is in the back or the blade(s) installed. These two are Loomfixers & it appears they have a slight bit of "swayback". ::shrug:: ::shrug:: Stop asking such hard questions ~Q~. You're starting to prove my ignorance. ::poke::

Actually, jerryd, it's my own ignorance (and laziness) that has been exposed. After posting my question, I did a little research (which I could just as easily have done before posting the question and exposing my ignorance and laziness). Turns out there's an entire thread (that's fairly recent, BTW) called "Loomfixer Love: Show them if ya got them"

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=67836

I discovered:
1) that I'm not the first to ask this question,
2) the difference between a Loomfixer and a Swayback Jack is...nothing, really. Choice of nomenclature may be more of a regional thing or simply a matter of preference. However, just as all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares, so too might it be said that all Swayback Jacks (with a sheepfoot-style master blade) are Loomfixers but not all Loomfixers are Swayback Jacks. See...clear as mud! ::cb::

Did it again! ::doh:: Had to have this one because..., ::hmm:: (see what I can come up with)

But seriously, I had to have it because it reminds me of my dad. ::nod:: KS stands for Kelly Springfield. My father used to work at one of their factories in Cumberland, Maryland. He worked there for about 10 years. When they closed the factory, we moved to FL. He was always proud of having worked there. I guess it was the best job he ever had. I know he always talked posative about his time there. I also have a KS Tire ashtray that was one of my dad's prised possessions. ::tu::

I remember that sometimes when he worked the night shift at KS, I would go with him to work on friday nights. He would go to work & I would sleep in his truck. Then on saturday morning, we would go to the flea market where he would sell stuff and I would roam around the flea market / livestock market all day. Then he would let me get something small like some marbles, a match box car, an old coin or maybe even a chicken. ::nod:: Good memories are getting my eyes wet. ::paranoid::

Anyways, it's 76mm long. When I get it and we are no longer on lock down, I will have it engraved with his initials and dates ( R.E.D. 1947 - 2016 ) or something like that & then add it to my EDC's. I'm happy that I got it. I almost let it go but I would have kicked myself for a long time if I had passed it up. ::nod::

Thanks for looking friends! ::handshake:: :D
