Sorry, my mistake. The one in my collection that I was thinking about is a small Craftsman.
There is an old American company Called Lodge, they make cast iron cook ware, they bought out another company from Portland, and took over their factory and still make cast iron cook ware there. Hope this answers your question about anything still made in Portland.TPK wrote: ↑Sat Dec 19, 2020 5:19 pmThanks OH!Old Hunter wrote: ↑Sat Dec 19, 2020 4:04 pm Tom I’m thinking the COAST is a SFO for Coast to Coast Hardware (but I’m not sure). Looks like a decent pocketknife. OHAppreciate your comment!

Coast is a company from Portland, Oregon mostly known for making flashlights. They have over the years & still do also sell knives. The knives are contracted out & produced over seas. Used to be Ireland & Japan, but I guess now it's probably China. Was looking at a Coast flashlight just a few days ago in a hardware store over here & it was made in China. So I asked myself if they produce anything at all in Portland now days or just contract out all of their products.I have one other Coast Jack knife that I bought from the same seller many weeks ago.
It was stamped with Ireland. The second Coast posted above is stamped with Japan. Here are a few pictures of the first Coast I bought.

Thanks for the tip. Just sent her a PM and asked her if she knows how old it might be.Old Hunter wrote: ↑Sat Dec 19, 2020 10:19 pm Tom, thanks for the information - your COAST knives are a new line to me then. By the way, Ann (Zoogirl) is the expert on Richards of Sheffield, she has shown quite a few over the years. OH

Wow!jerryd6818 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 1:41 pm Tom, unless I'm sadly mistaken (and I often am. Someone please correct me if I run off the rails with this one.) that Richards is a Loomfixer. You scored yourself a real beauty there. (plus that's the first Richards Loomfixer I've ever seen).

What is the difference between a "Loomfixer" and a "Swayback Jack"?jerryd6818 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 1:41 pm Tom, unless I'm sadly mistaken (and I often am. Maybe it's how much sway is in the back or the blade(s) installed. These two are Loomfixers & it appears they have a slight bit of "swayback".QTCut5 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 5:01 pmWhat is the difference between a "Loomfixer" and a "Swayback Jack"?jerryd6818 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 1:41 pm Tom, unless I'm sadly mistaken (and I often am. Thanks for clearing that up!QTCut5 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 20, 2020 6:19 pm Actually, jerryd, it's my own ignorance (and laziness) that has been exposed. After posting my question, I did a little research (which I could just as easily have done before posting the question and exposing my ignorance and laziness). Turns out there's an entire thread (that's fairly recent, BTW) called "Loomfixer Love: Show them if ya got them"
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=67836
I discovered:
1) that I'm not the first to ask this question,
2) the difference between a Loomfixer and a Swayback Jack is...nothing, really. Choice of nomenclature may be more of a regional thing or simply a matter of preference. However, just as all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares, so too might it be said that all Swayback Jacks (with a sheepfoot-style master blade) are Loomfixers but not all Loomfixers are Swayback Jacks. See...clear as mud!![]()
