Those are all dandy. But that black bone takes the cake.

Am I seeing right? Are the clip blade all flat ground in those instead of half saber?

You are correct. Those were all made after Camillus dropped the saber grind main blades.

I think sometime in the '80s but I don't have any documentation on that so please don't quote me. I do know that none of my '90 and later 72's don't have a saber grind main blade.

Vit, you're the man on Camillus. I thought you would have known that piece of trivia.

Morning JerryD, thanks for that info and the pics. Wasn’t aware of them dropping the Saber grind main in the 80s.

They made the #5 from '99-'03 which was just a 72 with wooden handles. The last catalog with the 72 listed was 2001 and it had an * Subject to availability.
The Yello-Jaket (the 72Y) was in their last catalog in 2006.

During the last couple of years you will see cobbled 72s with odd ball blades and strange placements. These MAY be made from parts after the bankruptcy or maybe what are called "lunchbox" knives. That's all speculation on my part.

Camillus filed for bankruptcy and closed its doors on February 28, 2007 but really, due to strife and an employee strike, they hadn't done much since Christmas of 2005 or actually for several years prior to that.

Here's a #5 with brass bolsters and wooden handles. They don't show up very often. (I call the bone handle 72 from 1946 the 'Alpha' and the #5 with wood handles from 99-03 the 'Omega')

JP, it's not something I just know. All that info is out there to be researched. I squirrel away that kind of info almost as much as I do the knives.

#5, as well as #72, was discontinued in 2001. Look at the 2002 price list, you won't see both of them.

I had found a pristine 5 on the bay. Ordered it, the seller moved during the purchase process and now can't find it. Sent my money back but I would have preferred the knife. I email him about ever 3 weeks to remind him if it turns up I want it. Aaaaaagh!!! ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::teary_eyes::

Here is the other Remington 72 clone that Skip talked about as the 5th Remington variation. It was made for the 2001 Remington Products Show. Thehy had a blade etch of "Remington Show Knife" and were numbered on the bolster. They also had a sticker on the box with the number of the knife on it. Mine was number 1071.

Yesterday I added this pocket knife to my collection. It's a CAMILLUS 72, 3 blade, swelled center, 3 5/8" closed, short line, first generation, "whittler" pocket knife. I did some minor cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

Nice short line 72 Skip ::tu:: . That’s the one that got me going in truly collecting instead of just buying ,trading whatever.
The bone on those first gens are beautiful. Now you got me going, might have to dig one or 2 out today .
Thanks for the jump start this morning , as usual Skip, nicely done .
You take care out there .

Afternoon fellas, sitting here going thru some knives, looking thru these pages of 72s . Over the years sure been some nice stuff here. Just ordered a new in package from
Knifeaholic, and am anxiously awaiting it. In the mean time gotta post a 72 ,or 2 ! Been shown b4 but feel like getting involved instead of just drooling over all your pics. So till the new 72 shows up ,you’ll have to put up with my contribution of these 2. May EDC the long line when the other one comes in. Or should just buy a user one? Good reason to keep looking around for another one
Take care ,stay warm ::tu::
