All About Pocket Knives

I have never gotten over my love affair with the M-14, a great military rifle imo. The M-16 was, I think, an exceptional jungle carbine once the teething troubles were resolved. Mostly these were caused by McNamara ignoring gunpowder specs in an effort to use up old inventory. Men died because of that bad judgement. Anyway, I certainly appreciated the light weight of the M-16.

We were one of the first boot camp platoons to be issued the M-14 so by the time we got to ITR (Infantry Training Regiment for one month after boot camp) and were issued the M-1, we had literally lived with the M-14, 24/7 for three months so we were fully indoctrinated. Other than that short stint in ITR, I never carried anything else during my four years. Fortunately I never had to hump that heavy sum-a-na-blitch through the rice paddies, elephant grass and jungles of Viet Nam so I can't speak to that experience. I'm guessing something lighter would have been welcome though the reliability of the M-14 would have been sorely missed.

Great stuff Steve and Camillus. Sounds like a fun shoot Steve. Nice handguns too. Camillus, never have I seen the release charger doodad you posted. I might check in to that being a right handed guy, left eye dominant guy whom only thing he does left handed is rifle and shotgun.

Spent the day at the range for 5 hours. From 10am to 3pm. Like 104 degrees. Great day.

I recently got a pretty major the best they make scope on par with top of the line German and USA scopes that is phenomenal. Best scope they make top of top of the line. German glass and all made in USA. Is fit for the fine rifle I mounted on. Precision is not a word I use lightly.

I talked the LGS (did not have to try too hard) out of yet another glass counter top protector. Same make of 100 percent of the many scopes I own besides some old display and Dads original old school stuff which I love.

It might seem like a minor pickup to some but I love the theme. Our much appreciated by me, elite Military Sniper Teams.

On Grandmas old table from way back I call my coffee table. Small in size.

Charger release? Don't you mean bolt release? The release for the charger is on the charging handle itself.

Splitting hairs in my opinion. Pretty sure all of us knew when you activate said doodad what the result is. Actuating that lever does in fact "charge" the weapon does it not?

I understand the function and, possibly, better than you do.The charging handle has one function and that is to retract the bolt from the closed position. If there is an empty magazine in the weapon then the bolt remains in the rear position and the charging handle is then pushed forward by the shooter until it latches in its forward position. If the magazine is not empty then the charging handle is released at the rearward position and the buffer spring pushes the bolt forward, stripping a round from the magazine, chambering it and causing the charging handle to latch in its forward position. The charging handle is linked to the bolt via a hole that the gas tube port fits through.

Your "doodad" merely actuates the bolt release so that it moves forward, chambering a round then locking the bolt after a magazine is loaded which are the final steps in the charging sequence: bolt unlocking, spent shell ejection, spring compression, hammer cocking, round chambering and bolt locking

Yeah...about 50 years ago.

There are so many variations of the AR-15, it's hard to keep up with them all.
Still Colt is one of the best made rifles to date. Out selling and out lasting many others in its class.

On a different note, I bought my first 10/22 a while back....by the serial number, a 1970, very clean, with a Weaver scope. Upgraded the trigger to a BX (down to around 3lb, as opposed to a bit under 6lbs), installed a sling from an old .303 British I don't shoot, and bought the Tri-Mag adapter. Now to go shootin'!! Stag 5375 in pic, because I can.

I like the lines on your rifle. It looks very sporty and quick handling.

I noticed your 10-22 last night and it looked so familiar. This morning, I remembered , I had traded for a brand new Ruger 44 carbine along about that time. The fore end of the wooden stock was shaped the same. Didn't keep it very long, sorry to report and I've never had the privilege of owning a 10-22.
Looks like a great set up, everybody needs an accurate 22 equipped with a "real" 'scope!

I have a Ruger 10/22 that I bought back in the early 1990's...got like 7 different
clips for it, and must have put at least 5000 rds thru it, never a jam, nothing,
its got to be 1 of the most dependable low costs shooters out there !!!

Here is a pic of my new rig I just got about 7 weeks ago..........
I traded in my S & W model 629 44 mag, and just wanted to go back to the
basics with what is probably gonna be my last gun purchase in my life, (gettin old)

The gun is the new Ruger Vaquero in 45 long colt, stainless
Knife is a Marble's Cowboy knife with coffin Stag handle
Bought the belt at a swap meet in Arizona this past winter and had
to wait till I got back in Michigan in may to buy the gun
I always wanted a Colt Peacemaker, this is very close to the feel and build
of one of them...figured as I am nearing the end of my trails, I would
get this rig to end it as well, very similar to "the gun that won the west"

Always loved the 10/22 that's a sweet looking setup steelman. Will that's a cool looking rig would like to see more of the belt and holster great color on it. Beautiful revolver

That is a really fine looking rig. Congrats. Although not much experienced in Western style revolvers, I recall picking up a Vaquero from the table at a gun show. It was in .357. I was floored by the wonderful balance of the piece.

The only pics I have at present.The Sears 10113 "Ranger" by Stevens that was my dads originally. Still has the original Wee-Weaver 4X scope on it. I'll post better pics of this and other guns when I get to it. I took these back when guys were asking for pics of the scope and mount.

Nice rig. My dad has an old 3 screw .357 blackhawk that is a dandy to shoot. It feels just right shooting one hand and is a tack driver. I've had no success trying to talk him out of that gun.

My 1st handgun, circa 1980, was a Ruger Blackhawk. I put a Bullseye trigger kit in it and changed the grips to Macassar Ebony to dress it up. I still have it and it doesn't see much action these days but it did early on and it is a dandy to shoot!

By the way, I also have a Super Blackhawk from around that same timeframe...
