Here is a little single blade trapper from a company in Beaumont, TX called Shields of Strength. They primarily sell Christian jeweler. I haven't found out yet who actually made the knife. It appears to be a well made knife, just fine for EDC. On one side is "Shield of Strength" shield and on the other is another shield with Philippines 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Great mail call yesterday.... all used, bulk purchase. Got some good stuff!

Pic 1: Klein, western, and schrade hawk bills. Cool handle shape on the schrade!

I bought a couple of cheap sunfish knives from SMKW. They are made with decent materials but lack close QC. Since they are not really collectables I figure the smooth bone covers are perfect for Scrimshaw. So I sent them to a Scrimshaw artist up in Main to continue the maritime custom of carving whaling and seafaring scenes on the bone of tool handles. I think they came out pretty darn good

They look great! He is an amazing artist, and it’s cool that he is carrying on a lost art.

Always interesting to see what folks have received in the mail.

Eelephant, you have quite a delivery today!
I got one today from the very shallow end of the bay. It's an Old Timer 6OT, it had a broken tip, I bid on it, $4.67 and won. The seller was kind enough and honest enough to send a note and ask if I realized the knife had been tipped? It was quite clear in the pictures he posted. I appreciate folks like that!
I forgot to take a before picture, this is what it looks like while in rehabilitation:

: The blade is a tad short as it sits in the well. With the reshaped blade, the tip stood a bit proud and now sits below the frame.

: Very few scratches on the blade, doesn't look like it has been sharpened improperly.

: Reshaped the tip and am in the process of getting an acceptable edge on it.

There are some dings on the brass that will smooth out as I complete this little project. $4.67 and about 30 minutes work thus far.

If I saw your knife for the first time without any prior knowledge of the repair, I'd think it was original, but you need to take that with a grain of salt since I am FAR from being an expert! What I do know is it looks good to me!

I have no idea how many old knives I have “tuned up” and tossed in a box. It could be be put to work but it’ll go in the pile with the others. It will be trading material or a gift to someone who needs such a knife.

I just got these two from fellow member Reverand. A Schrade 787 muskrat and a Case slim line trapper. I think I might redo the trapper in bone. I will post when I get it done.

Those two are very practical as users.

A slim-line trapper has a special place in my heart, as it was the 1st knife I remember buying with my own money and the muskrat gets a lot of use when finishing up and packaging venison at our place. My original Case 61048 has bone handles, but a new blade has been installed

Some of my friends use a muskrat for skinning out deer.I have always used a big knife like a Schrade 125ot or lb-7 or Buck 110.Maybe I will give it a try

I wanted Queen Steel's #45 Big Chief for a while, thinking of it as a kind of classic. Most of the ones I came across showed varying degrees of wear. Not long ago I ordered this one off of the bay. It was in pristine condition. Tight and snappy with strong half-stops.
It was not very sharp and it took longer than expected to bring it's edge up to snuff. The new ones made in China are aluminum rather than steel and come with a bail. They look practical but I will always think of the steel Queen as the ideal.

Nev, I don't use the muskrat for butchering a deer, I use it to remove tiny bits of Siver skin and fat on cuts before vacuuming/packaging. Been using a #39 Queen (folding hunter) for skinning and breaking down for years. Although I have dressed quite a few with a regular Case trapper or a stockman. An anonymous donor sent me a new Rough Rider trapper (before Rough Ryder) and I skinned and quartered a deer without having to touch up the blade! Anymore, the brisket and ribs are cut with a Sawzall, so in my camp a great big, fixed blade hunting knife isn't needed. Florida deer aren't all that big so maybe in another area a bigger knife might be beneficial.

Received this yesterday RB1240 , she has seen the years come and go, plus has the battle scars that goes with it. Been debating all day on the bone , but I think I will leave her alone and put her with the other Remingtons I have, wish I knew everywhere this ole gal has been and seen.
