Thanks Roger,I am under the impression that is an older style NYK jigging.

It has those deep lines that show up as a pattern on what some call pick bone when worn.

Yes Lyle it would be early NYK jigging.

That is some sweet jigging! Great looking knife, Lyle. You could tell the story of early American life making just with your Farmer Jack collection. ::nod:: ::tu:: ::tu::

"Life making"?

Maybe so, given our obsession with them. ::tu::

The little mistake that resulted from a long drive and sleep deprivation, may not be a mistake after all..

My wife once told me that she read somewhere that people who had a hobby tended to be much happier than those who do not. Perhaps "life making" is spot on ?

RobesonsRme.com wrote:Lyle, I'm not going to Eugene this year. Sorry if I left that impression.

I would, indeed, like to take The Robeson Collection out there and display it one last time before I divest myself of it, just not this year.

Charlie

For a minute there I was really hoping I would finally get to meet you and see your collection Charlie.
Hopefully next year.

Lyle if you come out to Eugene this year, let me know. Maybe a bunch of us from AAPK can get together for dinner one night.
A handful of us went to dinner last year, Phin Spencer & I and our wives and Scott (Mountain Man) had dinner together last show. I hope we can get a bigger group this year!

Thank you Dale and Dave for looking and commenting.Although being a beautiful pattern,it's obscurity and pruning blade puts it in the closet for a lot of collectors.

I posted this one in the rare stamps thread,it belongs in this archive also.

BARTLETT MFG CO DETROIT MICH g(Goins abb. for guesstimate) 1900-1920 4 1/8" as are all Schrades and Empires of this pattern.Obviously Schrade Cut Co made this one.I don't know when Schrade initially made this pattern for sure?.

I have the Schrade Catalog E with the supplements.Schrade first listed this pattern in that catalog in 1932,so Bartlett Mfg lasted longer than John Goins guessed or Schrade made the pattern earlier than listed in their catalog.??? Opinions welcome, but I think Goins missed it by at least 12 years. After all he said it was a guesstimate.

Another fine piece Lyle.I`m amazed that Goins was able to put together has much info as he and his wife did. What could he have done if they had Google etc.to use?

So true Roger.

For those who hadn't seen, this is in Charlotte Goins Introduction to the 1998 ed. :

"The new "Encyclopedia" is the compilation of all previous books, extensive research by John and myself, and information shared by other dealers and collectors. Some dates are preceded with a "g" in the new "Encyclopedia". These are "guesstimates"based on John's extensive knife knowledge, and his uncanny knack for remembering almost every knife he has ever seen".

I added the bold print.

For our benefit John Goins had a better memory than I do.
