Hey Tim,

Some real nice knives you have there!!!

Being a CASE collector, the 77' CASE knife with the red background I assume is model stamped 21051LSSP. Nice knife. As you know the 51 pattern designation has been reused by CASE for many different CASE knife patterns. Single bladed Hobo, fishtail, etc in the old days/eras. They call that one a "Hornet". I have a couple in wood and one in aluminum or some sort of lightweight metal. The metal one I think is referred to as the "Trailpacker".

Pretty knives you have there. The Hornets / Trailpacker appear to me to be solid but lightweight knives.

This has fast became one of my favorite lockbacks.It is just a supper knife a little on the big side but fits great in the back pocket.

Wazu, the early 500 series from the 1970's and early 1980's had this style tang stamping. The earliest 500 series had deep red Micarta handles, and most importantly to collectors are made with 440C blade steel. OH

Speaking of the Buck 500, word is that it's reappeared in the Buck catalog this year.

Dave, isn't that great! I read on the Buck sub-forum over at Blade that the new 500 has already hit the shelves in several stores and is selling for around $50.00. I will grab one at that price for using purposes and keep my early model 500 pristine. OH

Morning walk in the local woods trying to get my addled mind clear before talking to adults in the working world. Light rain falling. Mixed woods with plenty of pine trees...

The trick here is to practice making fire without mucking up the area for those who come along later. Coffee can bottom makes a small fire base to minimize the damage. Shavings are courtesy of my Buck 500.

The small fire plate favors a "log cabin" style fire.

I'm not opposed to "cheating" a bit. A small cache of pre-cut tack cloth rides in the fanny pack. Wrapped around a twig, it makes an easy to control torch.

The torch makes it easy to get the flame in the middle of the shaving bundle.

Nice to smell the fire while feeling with woods hiss with rain.

After the fire dies out, it's super easy to douse with water and dispose with the ash and cinders in a safe place. No fuss. No muss. And back to the world of keyboards....
