Glad you like them John & Steve. This was the Ontario set of designs from Bill Bagwell who wrote the book (literally) on Bowies. As Bagwell points out in his book and videos, when made to certain specifications the Bowie can do some remarkable things unavailable to other designs.

QS those Bowies stir up a Texas boys heart. You sure have some wonderful ones there. Love the coffin handles.

Thank you dogg. I had shown these a couple of years ago but I figured there were new members and others who had not seen them. One thing that always struck me as ironic is that for some years Texas did not permit the public carry of a Bowie. I recall hearing that prohibition has been changed but I don't know that as a fact.

Yes Sir it has changed. I haven't seen anyone carrying one yet. But those are beauties.

QS the Seax is an interesting knife and one I'm liking more all the time. Speaking of Mr. Bagwell he made me a couple knives back in 1980. Unfortunately both were stolen along with a lot of other knives and things when my house was robbed in January of 1999. I use to talk to him on the phone about his knives back then. Read his articles in SOF Magazine and his book. Seem like such a long time ago now days!

I have publicly carried Bowies in Texas since the law changed just because I can, but generally I carry smaller fixed blades. The biggest effect of the change is that when I am packing a larger blade around the farm, I don't have to take it off if I need to make a run into town for supplies.

Texas was not the only state that had those restrictions. Some states still have those restrictions in there penal codes.

The restrictions were initially put in place by carpetbaggers after the Civil War when the Texas Constitution was rewritten, as well as our penal code.

Part of it stemmed from the widespread use of Bowies and other knives in drunken bar brawls, but also it was a way of disarming poor whites and blacks - the rich could afford to buy guns, but the poor had to rely on knives, hence the typical ban on "dirks, daggers, pongiards and Bowies, and the blade length restrictions.

Through the efforts of Knife Rights and knife-friendly legislators, Texas now has a state-wide pre-emption law (only state law applies - no local knife laws making a hodge-podge of being legal), no blade length or blade type restrictions (some exceptions), switch blades are now legal, and the ban on carry of clubs (which includes tomahawks, hatchets, billy clubs, etc) and on ownership of knuckles of any sort has been removed.

The exceptions to the blade length issue is that you can't carry a knife with a blade longer than 5-1/2" in the same places where you can't carry a concealed handgun. Not a big restriction in the big scheme of things.

This goes all the way back to early days in Europe where it was a crime to posses any weapon capable of piercing the local "lords" amour.

I like that coffin handle.

Redrider, I always avoided coffin-shaped handles on stylistic grounds. Then, with these Bowies, I learned what a practical shape they were, working exceptionally well in my hand.

It seems to be well made. Manufactured in Brazil.

Correction: I was told that this knife was made in Brazil but I found a small tag on the box that says product of China. There is no indication of origin on the knife itself so I'm assuming it is made in China.

Nice blades guys ..here’s a Taylor Seto, Japan I just got back from ex-wife! I bought this from a friend’s uncle probably 25 years ago for $35..Think I’m gonna put it up for trade

Newest fixed blade fix . A Queen #73, (real or imitation?..) Winterbottom bone, early 2000's tang stamp, D2 steel, original leather sheath.
Lovely mint little fixed blade, will make a great edc/carry round the house.

She's on my belt right now, hardly even know she's there.
That's the way I like my fixed blades, nice n' light and comfy, no weight drag at all. Can't stand a heavy anything hanging off me belt, hurts my lower back. Same story with mora's, such handy knives.
