My wife ask her uncle to custom make this skinner for me almost 20 years ago for my birthday. I do not get the opportunity to hunt big game much these days, but it's been a pleasure to carry and will hopefully be passed down for generations.

Not sure where in the scheme of things these fit... but here is probably close enough... CASE Knife/Hatchet combos... Who's the authority here? Pattern number? Date coding? I'm guessing that the sheath for the TESTED XX is not correct as the stag on the handles is stained from brass degradation - pins and liners - and the sheath shows no signs of staining... Thanks for any help, Ken

A fixed blade my son purchased when he as 12 or 13, plastic handle with a compass in the end in a plastic sheath. It didn't cost much and was well worth the price

. He has advanced to Benchmade, Spyderco and Protect now.

I don't think I've posted this one before, but I thought it might be nice for Fixed Blade Friday. Ontario Black Bird, SK-5 steel, black linen micarta scales and they put so much effort into fit and finish I think you could cut with the edge of the spline, it's that crisp. Nice sheath too, kind of like the USMC issued bayonets (OKC3S). Nothing like good ol' American quality!

Cool knives! That Herder is really interesting looking, looks to be pretty old. Know anything about it?
And

Is the Herder actually a piece of a Herder butcher knife blade re-purposed? Like your knives!

Welcome Timothy.
Impressive start!!
That Herder looks like a smatchet blade with a modified handle. Not that I know a whole lot, but the challenge on a recent Forged in Fire had them making a smatchet.

I know absolutely nothing about the Herder. Other than it has had the handle replaced. In the handle a 7.62x39 shell casing is embedded. I was trying to find a photo of what the original knife looked like. Thanks for your response.

Smatchet. Timothy, yours just seems to be a bit broader.
