I own a number of handguns from .22 up to .45 caliber models. My wife is impartial to the .357 mag I bought her (carries with .38 rounds), while both daughters really like the 9mm I bought for them to carry. As for me...only a .45 caliber will do.

A couple of years ago while diffing around on Bud's site, I saw a flash sale for a Citadel 1911, $325 plus shipping. Without hesitation, I made the order, not knowing much about the brand. After ordering, I began reading up about them...Made by ARMSCO along side the RIA and other brand 1911s they produce. The Citadel is a more well equipped version of the RIA from what I can see when compared to the RIA I already owned. Ambi-safety, adjustable trigger, skeletonized trigger and hammer, full length guide rod, and other parts and pieces that people usually go to the aftermarket for came stock with this pistol. Reading up on it confirmed that my impulse buy was a good one. Since I bought it, I have seen regular prices of the $550 range for the same model I have. Anytime you purchase something worth more than you paid for it, you're ahead...right?

After a few weekends at the range, I decided to make it my EDC pistol. A bit on the heavy side, but a good, thick leather belt does a find job of holding it where it needs to be.
BTW...that will be the only peace symbol I ever have in my house. If you can't read it, around the symbol are the words "Peace Through Superior Firepower". Other than changing out the magazines, for some better ones, it's the only modification I made. The rest of it is how it was when it came to me.

My dad was a Vietnam Vet (65-68) and his welcome back home after 2 tours was less than ideal. He made sure to let his kids know what happened when he came back through California, and what he went through that was caused by those that used the symbol. I was leery getting these grips because of that, but the words surrounding it made all the difference in my decision. They've gotten a bit of attention out at the range on the weekends...lots of grins.

Very good sir! I'm a 1911 45 acp man myself. I carry either a commander size or an officer sized one, and I agree on the belt, it makes all he difference in the world. I wear a wilderness tactical instructor's belt and it works really well.

Those RIA guns are good guns!

Nice firearm Gents.
Picked up a new expensive rig today given the caliber.
My new squirrel gun.

T bolt which is new to me but as close to bolt rapid fire as you can get. A 17 HMR Browning with Vortex 4x16 BDC scope. Different squirrels here, fast and about size of a chipmunk or smaller. Maybe 4 or 5 inches body long about 1 body diameter. Not sure of species. Just called a ground squirrel in these parts.
Nevada is known for crazy amount killed in a hunt. Hunters normally carry 1000 rounds per day type of hunt. No exaggeration.

Jerry that is a real fun looking rig. And there ain't no flies on the 17hmr either. It's a bad little round. Guys here use it in close range coyote too with the right bullets.

Jerry, that is a beautiful stock, not to mention a fine rifle - NICE! I went out shooting a week ago; I rarely go shooting during a hunting season, but I had already killed a Gobbler so I went with a buddy and his girlfriend to the range. I shot these three: my Dad's old Winchester 22LR (his 12th birthday present from my Grand Dad) a vintage SMLE in 303 BRIT and a M1 Carbine. Dad's Winchester is getting balky with a lot of ammo brands, but it will shoot the CCI Mini-Mag flawlessly, so I need to lay in a supply of them while LR ammo is still plentiful. I was shooting old S&B and PPU 174 FMJ in the Smelly, and Armscor 110 ball in the Carbine. Had a nice time. OH
Ps If any of you guys own an M1 Carbine and need new magazines try the Korean Army surplus that are floating around for $10 to $12 new - I bought two and they fed flawlessly. The WW-II GI mags are getting ridiculous in price - even the magazines are collector items today.

I was going to comment on Old Hunter's pictures, I think that .22 is a Model 74. I traded for one years ago and it was a little lazy but with a good lube job it started to digest what ever ammo I fed it. Also who was the manufacturer of that M-1?

Great selections of 22LR there Camillus. Part reason why I invested in the 17 HMR. Fun and less expensive to shoot than my Cooper .308 at $1.40 a trigger pull.

Yea Tony, no intent to deceive but too the pics with the turret caps off. Forgot to put them back on before the pics. Nonetheless, I have always been a "Buy the best you can afford, take care of it and it will take care of you for life" kind of guy. So yea, we don't screw around.

Great rifles Bruce. Thanks for the compliment. My favorite is the old .22 which was Dad's birthday gift from Grand Dad. I am a strong man but sentimental like that as I am sure you are. Glad you have that rifle. That is a treasure.

Mike, thanks and she is a tack driver. Just got her yesterday afternoon. Hit the range yesterday and this morning. VERY windy as always here. Still sub MOA at 100 yards off the bench. Very fine with that on a 17 grain bullet. Recoil is nill of course. Less $ per pull. Mags are awesome, very easy to load. See the target pic below. That is a 25 yard target at 100 yards. 3 inches wide, each circle is an inch. That is 10 rounds ~MOA test goup.

Yup Steve and thanks. Maple stock. Love the action. Left eye dominant right hand guy so I shoot lefty on rifle and shotgun only. The followup shot were very quick if needed. A fan so far of the T Bolt.

More to follow as I will write a review for those interested. But first review is fantastic. WORK IN PROGRESS...

PROs:
1. About 26 cents per pull.
2. Devastating round on squirrels (only thing I shot thus far with it)
3. Very accurate.
4. Great design in my opinion.
5. Double Helix Rotary Magazines. Fit flush with rifle, hold 10 rounds. Very easy loading. Has a wheel to release spring pressure if needed so you just drop the round in. Even without the wheel, no abrasion loading many rounds.
6. Beautiful gun. Ugly guns kill too but on a bolt, I prefer old school wood, not synthetic, to each his own.

CONs
1. No scope mount included so extra cost.
2. Cost. 700 bucks for a "high end rifle" in this caliber. Not a custom rifle but may be too much for some to justify to buy. I am a get what you pay for guy as I said it and it delivered.
3. Spares mags are 42 bucks apiece. As I said though, a finger saver on a busy day.

The TEST The Hunt:
Paradise Valley, NV. People come for many hours to hunt squirrels here. These squirrels wreak havoc on the hay pivots here. The farmers are glad for you to shoot them. They can cause broken legs for dogs, tearing up fields, etc. Most squirrel snipers setup with a pickup truck and a shooting bench in the bed.
Tired from killing squirrels all day so here is the nutshell best I can do…
Imagine the “Whack a mole” game with a rifle on steroids and Adrenalin with a rifle on 2 acres. Except these darn things are really small.
I shot 150 rounds in 2.25 hours. 126 Kills. That is 84%. 90% of those were head shots. Some shots I missed but some did not offer the chance for a headshot as they kind of bob and weave around. Some just stand upright waiting for you to dial them in. Keep in mind, very windy here and not good on a 17 grain round at longer distance.
I stuck with a “50 yard wide shooting lane” from 50 to 250 yards out given the farmers house and all the irrigation gear. There were literally hundreds more I passed on outside on my “lane”. Likely thousands more in the pivot.
Best shot of the day was the longest. 235 yard head shot. Took me two shots to do it but got it done. Their head is about the size of a quarter or half dollar dependent on juvenile or adult.
The pic with the CASE Hunter at 5-1/4” long is a big adult.

I have a Marlin 17 HMR heavy barrel and it too is a tack driver. Got the free knife with the mail in offer. Last I checked the ammo was around $15 box, so not much target practice. I took it to the DNR range and put one in the X. Handed it too my wife who is not a shooter and she did the same so I put it away. I am not familiar with the Browning T bolt action.

Thanks Wade and Joe. I just threw my shooting bags, rangefinder, binos, mags, etc on the jeep hood and went at it. A crazy hunt for sure. One of the best I have had. Averaging just under one shot per minute. Non stop action.

Can't say enough about the rifle for now. But only had it a couple of days. Will remain open minded to pros and cons moving forward. Will report back on any additional thoughts.

Yup mrwatch, I have done the same thing. When your first shot is dead center, can only go downhill from there. Put it away and call it good.

I have a Henry Golden Boy in .17 HMR, a birthday gift from my two long time buddies. All I can say about it is "Oh my goodness". It shoots much better than I can.
