scrubby scrubby steel wool and mineral oil? WD-40? How do you do it?

Here you go Cal....
All it did was put some light (3-in-one) oil on the covers and rubbed them between my fingers after I ate my lunch today.
The color came back pretty well, I think.

The before;

7OT 4 pin_1979_1.jpg

and the after oiling.....

1979 75th Anniv after oil only.JPG

Not too bad. I light clean up on the brass and she is ready to go.
This knife from 1979 has NEVER been used. MAYBE, opened a couple of times.....LOL.

Rich Healey (R.I.P. Rich) research: “There were 2 separate times when the 7OT was sold: -- late-1978 thru very early 1982 -- 1990 thru end of days 2004.
There are 2 versions of the early 'run' that I've seen: Both have the 4 visible pins and (I believe) are both high carbon steel -- the 75th Anniversary (rumored to be only 12,000 sold) -- same with no etch (120,000? sold)”

To add to this, I believe some of the late run had non-stainless steel, and many more had stainless steel. They were not always stamped to be able to tell without checking out the knife. Those later ones were all three-pins.

Thanks for adding that info Cal.
SO.... my knife may of may not be from 1979.

(EDIT**.. it does have a light blade etch left that shows it is the 75th anniversary knife)

It does have the 4 pins and carbon steel blades.

I am STILL learning!!...
(And I will soon forget even more that I will ever learn....LOL)

Nice knives
Here a thread on 70T ( if you have not noticed the rocker pin in the 70T is in a different position to the 7-OT )

Thanks for pointing out about the rocker pins Grant. That is one of the differences I never noticed.
::tu::

By the way.... I have seen a picture (maybe it was your picture Grant...?????) that has several 7OTs stacked up with a "how many different 7OTs do you see?" note under it.

Yes, I hate to try to go through a thread and then, the picture I am expecting is gone!
We have such a nice archive of pictures (and threads...thanks Grant) here. Thanks Brian for all your hard work.

Well.... I got another Old Timer in today.

This one is a "SCHRADE NY USA" Old Timer 8OT.
This one is a little different than my other one with this same tang stamp.

This one that just came in, has a "match strike" pull...

Here (below) is my other 8OT with the same tang stamp.

Long straight pull.....

Another oddity to add to my collection.

My guess on the Match-strike 8OT, it was made about 1971-72...
The Frontiersman (8OTY) was only made in 1990...Ken
I have the same knife, with an 881Y Blade.

A very nice find there Mike. I know Schrade called the 12OT a PAL but to me it's still a good looking Pony Jack. ::tu::

Hey that's my pic Cal! Hands off lol Just joking... I sometimes carry a 4-pin 7OT as seen in the Schrade Beast pic. It is most certainly carbon steel.

Well.... I snagged another Schrade out of the bay today.
Not a bad looking Trapper.

As it turns out, it is an "X out" Heritage Trapper.
I'm not sure what this one is going to be like when it arrives BUT at least it looks like a (sorta) nice Trapper with bone covers.

We shall see.........

Still find a nice knife every now and then. This is an Imperial Frontier 4421 premium jack. Nice old pattern with 1095 carbon steel blades, with a pretty satin finish.
