3" total and under..I carry anything but prefer a smaller pocket knife Jerry..

Just picked up this medium sized Slick Black Klaas. They were sold out for the last couple of weeks & I really wanted one, so as the seller posted one again, I jumped on it.
Just have to find the right moment to inform Silvia about it. LOL!

First "Fruit and Sausage" knives. Both are Colonial. The PE version looks pretty well used, the SE does not.

I was setting some cash aside for Kabar's Black Friday/Cyber Monday 50% off most sale as I want to buy an Ek Commando (and thus spending nothing on knives in October), but I decided to order a couple of Bears from Red Hill Cutlery. And besides, I have less than what one halfway decent new knife usually costs me in these two American-made knives. Quality is a crapshoot. I have really good Bear knives and tools; and I have Bears so bad they are safety hazards. There is no in-between.

Folding Hunter with saw and guthook. $20. It's a rather big 5 1/4" closed, which makes it well suited to hard-use. The blade is a lockback, but the saw/guthook combo is a linerlock (weird setup, especially when I know they make double lockbacks for Moore Maker). Kraton handles are really good for grip. It also includes Bear's really great nylon sheath. The two Bear multitools with sheaths I own are really bad, but the sheaths are great. I use them for several different knives and tools I own.
3" Trapper. $17 "Factory Find" which probably explains the Mt. Ida tang stamp (I don't even think Mt. Ida is even still selling knives anymore). With those handles, it should be lose-proof. I wanted the full-sized Stockman instead, and had it in my cart last week, but noticed they'd sold out of it. But, I have a Remington version of the 3" trapper, and like it a lot.

I think the company started when Ken Griffey bought the old Parker factory in Jacksonville, AL. He sold the company to Swiss Army Brands/Victorinox in the mid '90s because they wanted his multitool patent to produce the SwissTool (which is a really good tool by the way). About 2007 or so, he bought it back as he didn't like how the Swiss were running the company (and I bet, in truth, it was due to the shoddy quality compared to Victorinox)--that's when "Bear MGC" changed to "Bear and Son". Some of the older ones are decent attempts, but pretty much everything in the past 10-15 years is hit or miss. I've had two Bear Jaws multitools that were current production--so poorly made they were dangerous. I had two Sideliners--I gave one to a buddy, his quit locking within a week. I had to take mine apart and run a sharpening stone across the linerlock to get it to lock. I've had a handful of good ones. Minuteman penknife--almost as good as my Schrade 104OT. The modern 204RD penknife--decent, but the blade had a blade rap issue, and it chipped. I have a Craftsman-branded multitool they made, and it's great. Same with my Remington. But, it's maybe, to say the least 50/50 in what I've had. This is compared to Buck (not a problem), Case (few minor QC things), and Utica/Kutmaster (lower-end lines are rough around the edges, but the higher end knives are excellent--I have a Moore Maker double lockback by Utica, and it's excellent. I don't have a Camillus or Schrade with a problem. If it does, it's because the knife was obviously a second, or leftover from the factory closures.


You'd think with Wally Gardiner (former Schrade President) partially running the show, they'd try to match the Schrades of old, but uh, no. I can't even think of a store (including the fact we have a cutlery store that is the biggest Case and Spyderco dealer in the Coalfields) that carries more than one or two. Some say Ace Hardware carries them, but our local Ace affiliate only has a Case display.

Man Cody, that hunter looks vicious! Nice looking Trapper also!

First one is this Richartz with what appears to have wooden handles.

The other 3 are for the kitchen. A small "Solingen" with wooden handle & a set of 2 "Pink Ladies" because it's "Ladies Night"! They have different edges & are also made by Richartz.

I'm pretty stoked about the Schrade Walden I just found on the bay. We don't have many older Schrades over here in Germany. I know nothing about it though so if anyone wants to tell me anything about it, I'd appreciate it.

Can anyone tell me:

Is this a boy scouts of america shield?
What is the patern # ?
Bone or Derlin scales?
34,50 shipped / good or bad ?

I noticed this morning that I'm missing some years between 1990 & 2020 in my Mini-T accumulation, sooooooooo..........

I started filling the gaps with a 1996 Chestnut Mini-T. Seller's picture of course. Now I just have to wait.

I also ordered a Rough Ryder "Blue Mule" Mini-Trapper.

That is definitely an odd one. I have a NIB Camillus example of that same knife, dated 1996. I think I paid just a bit less ($27) for it off this very site. They call it the "Leaders Pen Knife".

Having never seen a Schrade example, I'm not sure. I've only seen Imperial and Ulster BSA knives. The only "official" Schrade BSA knife was in a mess kit set. Handles on yours look Delrin, and it appears to obviously be carbon steel.

So the 2 blades, federal shield & derlin handles puts it in the upper group of knives. But they were Schrade & this one is Schrade Walden.

Thanks for the info Skip. I'll search the net some. See if I can find out more about it.

Tom the 2 blade 2.75" knife was manufactured from 1962 to 1972 which would make it a Schrade Walden.
