With that HUGE pile of pheasants how does each hunter know which birds are his ? Maybe you just divide them up equally and it doesn't matter who shot what ?
Are they farmed and then released for hunting ? Hard to believe there would be that many wild birds in one area.

Geeze!! 44 birds per person? Is that a legal bag? All in one day?? Kinda reminds ya of the buffalo hunts of the 1870's.

I like broiled salmon. Slice of tomato, slice of onion, slice of orange, a few capers and a drizzle of olive oil, a dash of salt and a sprinkle of cayenne pepper.

I also like good salmon patties, biscuits and gravy. Been eating that all my life.

My dad used to fix what he called, "saw-mill gravy". It was not "red-eye" gravy, but was made with flour browned in grease or oil, then milk, with chopped boiled eggs, diced onion, and white tuna chunks, salt and black pepper. Delicious over toast or biscuits.

Gosh, I'm hungry.

To each his own, glad a good time was enjoyed. Just reminds me too much of the ArgentinIan Dove hunts. Spoke with many hunters in my travels. These trips to Argentina for dove are not a hunt but a slaughter in my opinion. Over 500 birds per hunter a day is not uncommon and you can't bring your own shells.
Who am I to question conservation in a particular area though?
I certainly like to bring home something to put on the table but as long as the dog and I get out it's a good day even if we come home with nothing.

I would agree with you Jerry. At home were the birds are wild and not raised we hunt conservatively. We plant food specifically for them. With the drought being like it is it has been tough on the qual and pheasant. When we see a pheasant we don't even shoot them. Few and far between. But when it's a deal like that in OK. Shoot till you can't any more.

Still a whole month before dove season here in the Panhandle.
I've been draggin' around finishin' up the grandsons' shootin' house, I've got all kinds of excuses, it's too hot, I'm too old, I need to be mowin' the yard, after I get done with whatever, I am too tired , on and on and on........ We posted some earlier pictures of the project on pages 172 & 173 of this thread.

Since the mower's been in the shop since last Friday I have just about finished the shootin' house for the boys. Made some little window slides for the polycarbonate window panes, slide 'em up and pin 'em with a small nail in a predrilled hole. All that's needed is a few hardware items for the door, a couple of cheap handles and a couple of barrel bolts and then I'll drag it to the food plot.

Decided to try my hand at camouflage and used branches and leaves as I over sprayed them . I really think camo is for us rather than Bambi. They get used to a barns and pump houses of all sorts of colors. Probably wasted some good spray paint doing that .

I sit in a chair under a tree behind some briars in a thicket that's surrounded by about 300 acres of corn and soy beans. That house is high class!

Dale, get a nice salmon filet, grill it like you would a hamburger, put it on a bun and dress it the way you like your burgers. One of my favorites (I like it blackened and grilled). Mmm-mmm. IMHO tastes a lot like a burger but a healthier option.

You can do the same with any fish filet. First time I ever had a "fish burger"' was in Hawaii years ago. It was Mahi-Mahi and there it was cheaper than hamburger. If you haven't tried it, give it a try.

All that discussion about salmon a couple days ago flung a cravin on me, so this is what I had this evening, prepared as described above. Served with French fried potatoes. Not visible in the picture but under that lettuce is sliced dill pickles, sliced red onions and sliced tomato (and the bottom half of the hamburger bun). Before and after pictures.

That's it Dave, fresh is the key. Salmon in Texas obviously isn't as fresh as what you get. But when my wife goes into town for groceries there's a couple stores that have fresh fish markets in them and they do a pretty good job of it. She quizzes the help there and won't buy it if it's been frozen and thawed already, or otherwise not fresh. Usually she ends up with Redfish or snapper but sometimes the salmon or Mahi-Mahi passes muster. Most any good filet blackened and grilled will make a good burger but I'll take fresh salmon if I can get it.

Decided it was time for a boat; little river cruising with my family, some fishing, and of course some duck hunting. My daughter was checking it out after I brought it home last night - she's ready now! OH

OH there's no limit to the good times you can have with a rig like that.

They were transplanted into the Great Lakes back in the '60s to eat the Alewives. The Alewife population was way out of control. Turned out to be a super solution and they took off and prospered. There's trouble now with the Zebra Mussel eating the food the Alewives eat and now the Chinooks (King Salmon) are in trouble because the Alewife population is down.

But yes, we have freshwater Chinook Salmon and they are awesome!
