Is there a way to date Remingtons by the spacers? I've heard Marble's can be dated that way but I'm sceptical about it.

Great looking old Remingtons. I've not handled any Remington fixed blade. Is the purpose of the pommel shape to better balance the knife?

I have no idea, myself; maybe someone else knows. Remington certainly had their own distinctive style. Something else: Most of their sheaths were left-hand! I have not heard of any date coding by colored spacers.

That particular treatment of Westerns was particularly attractive. I have had three in three different patterns. All three gassed but did not appear to do so before noticing some rust. Advertencia!

I have three 239 pattern Western Bo. (one has the JC Higgins stamp) sitting next to my computer waiting for me to get around to rehandling them. The gassing is minor now on two and getting nasty on the third. I have already done a couple with that celluloid. I love the looks of that celluloid and have a number of them both fixed and folders, but they sure are prone to gas. All three are either in mint or excellent condition before for the off gassing. At least they are really easy to rehandle with bone, wood or stag and you don't have to take the pummel or guard off to attach new handle material. ____Dave

My latest fixed blade. "Made by one of America's premiere bladesmiths, Rody Stan."
$14 on ebay most likely from Pakistan, but a cool bowie anyway.

it certainly looks to be a very fine Sgian Dubh, Erwin. I am wondering about the blade length. Also the steel if you should know.
