John, on the wood issue so far I have found possibilities in zebra wood and tiger maple.

In keeping with my Stag obsession, I picked up this little German-made Jack recently. I'm not familiar with very many German brand names and the name stamped on the tang of this knife is not one I had ever heard of previously (perhaps TPK Tom recognizes it ). Nevertheless, since every made-in-Germany knife I own (or have ever owned) is high quality and exceptionally well made, I decided it was worth taking a risk and I went ahead and bought it (eBay find). As far as the legendary German quality goes, this one is no exception; it does not disappoint in any way and I am quite pleased with it.

No clue as to its age, but it doesn't appear to be very old.
Closed length = 3⅝"

Love that European stag Q. Google has a number of sites about the Hammesfahr knife company. They made a wide variety of patterns from kitchen cutlery to Hitler Youth models.

If it's a German brand and I don't have any yet (like Hammesfahr) then it is often due to the price or as for this particular brand due to the price & the blade combinations they normally have. Hammesfahr always seems to pack a nail file into almost every knife I run across. These often sell in the 35 - 50€ range. Which would be ok for a good brand name knife but I pass on them because I don't care too much for nail files. I haven't seen but just a couple without a file and then they sell for a bit more ( I'd say the 45 - 65€ range) which is a bit much for my budget so I pass on them as well. I can also add that I personally, have never run across any Hammesfahr beaters. If so, I'd probably have one of them by now. But maybe I should just look harder. They were all in unused or near mint condition. Whatever that tells us. Anyways, as QS has already mentioned, they have been around for a while and are a well respected brand from what I can tell on eBay. I remember seeing several of them about 8-10 months ago that a collector was selling. They were all in Shadowbox frames and they all had files on em. I believe they sold in the 50 + € range.

Great looking knife! Especially in Stag! I love it! Super cool find!

Picked this up for a pittance and busted the handles (synthetic) trying to install a shield.
So I contated Jeff to see if he would give it the spa treatment. He said yes and this is what it looks like now. Thank you Jeff.

There's that thoughtful spouse of yours looking after you again Kerry! You really must take her out for a night on the town sometime soon! She has excellent taste in knives, well, except for the Russlock of course! Never cared for them, never will! The vivid blue covers certainly are attractive though! Congrats!

Wow, these 2 new models are exceptional Garry! I've been on a coke-bottle search lately and these 2 completely fit the bill. If they had spear-points instead of clips I'd really be drooling. The wood is looking very much like Zebrawood to me! Very nice catch!
