I suppose it's about time I posted in my own thread.

My wife and I just returned from a little vacation in Kentucky. We visited 3 Bourbon Distilleries and toured 2 of them. We also visited a Winery. Here are some pics from the trip.
The view from the deck at our cottage on Taylorsville Lake. A few pictures from our tour of Bardstown Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky. They just opened their doors in 2016 or 2017 and this was a very clean, modern, and state of the art facility. We were quite impressed. They have about a dozen of these Rickhouses and they are in the process of building 16 more just like them. All of these Rickhouses are full of Bourbon filled whiskey barrels undergoing the aging process. Each Rickhouse is equipped with a series of Lightning Rods. A building this size with 5,000+ barrels full of flammable whiskey stored on wooden racks would be a catastrophe for the distillery if it ever caught fire. That’s also why the Rickhouses are placed so far apart. More info and pics to follow.

Our tour guide at Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky gave each one of us one of these necklaces. Bourbon samples were offered periodically throughout the walking tour and this way we would always have our glasses at hand and ready for a sample. Some additional pictures of the Heaven Hill facility. We also visited the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky but we did not take a tour there.

We also drove another 216 miles to visit the Purple Toad Winery in Paducah. And here is what I brought home with me. All birthday gifts from my wife except the Bardstown glass. It was free with the tour. The little “Grenade” bottle can only be purchased at the Heaven Hill facility. And I carried my Ohio River Jack on the trip.

I toured Heaven Hill last fall, didn’t have the cool glass “necklaces”. That Heaven Hill BnB 7 yr is good stuff! But it wasn’t available for sale then I bought the Elijah Craig Toasted. And one of the little ones like yours.

I got the 7 year because we were given a sample of it on the tour. We had about 5 different samples and that one was my favorite among them.

I couldn't help but notice that although they had a lot of Bourbon for sale in the gift shop, the 7 year BnB was not available. They had those bottles stashed away for people who took the tour. We had to pay for it of course, but you had to be a tour participant to buy it.

Great photos Rick! ... , I sure wish that I was undergoing the aging process about half as well as that there whiskey... for me it's more like a bottle of Thunder Bird these days...

I call this a Knuckle Duster - 4 oz. rum, 6 oz. cranberry juice and an oz. of orange juice. Nice Summertime cocktail, with a couple Marbles.

Cranberry juice, Key Lime rum & a lime twist. A favorite at local lakeshore Jimmy Buffett themed bar. The name? Sexy Parrot.

Having some of the Bardstown Bourbon tonight. Might follow it up with a smidgen of the Elijah Craig Barrel Select but not sure yet. Those olives are HOT. I ate one and it was so hot that it made me check the ingredients. The last thing on the list is "Ghost Chili Peppers".

Rick, those olives would make an excellent Bloody Mary.

That is a great suggestion! Wish I would have thought of that sooner. My first taste of those olives was a couple weeks ago and I finished them off this afternoon.

They made a great snack but I could only eat 3 or 4 of them at a time. I haven't had a Bloody Mary in several years. I think you're right though. That would have been really good.

Sometimes you buy it just to empty the bottle...

That is a very interesting bottle, GSP. It reminds me of a Better Call Saul episode where a high end Tequila had a designer cap, so Jimmy and Kim conned a rich Texan into gifting them a bottle. It was a clever show.

I need to try that,... As a mater of fact, I am heading to Texas on Wednesday... I can always use more liquor, I just need to find a rich Texan... but, from they way they brag, they must be everywhere!
