Shearer, those are some wonderful 1047's. I'm going to have to dig mine out and see what I have. I know I have an imperial but not sure which one. If I remember right you have quite a collection of 72's don't you?
I have around eighty.

You're catching up to me Grant. These days I seldom add to my pile. In fact it's gotten to the point where it's closer to never.

Jerry, I stopped buying as the Australian dollar has dropped, USPS prices went up and now I have to pay 10% GST on the full price( cost of knife and shipping ).
These governments manage to spoil the good old days.

Today's latest acquisition, via the post office, is this knife. Another Camillus 72 (72Y), Yello-Jaket, 3 blade, swelled center, "whittler" pocket knife. It received an inspection and it needed no cleaning or anything done to it at all. Here are the pictures.

Today I purchased this Craftsman, 3 blade, swelled center, "whittler" pocket knife. It's a pattern 9494 and as far as I can tell, not stamped or marked as such. It is a Camillus 72 variation. When I receive it, it'll get the once over. I'll take some pictures and post them in the appropriate location(s).

Judging from the shield (sure looks like it says Craftsman plus it's a football shield) and the plain pull on the main (not match strike) I would guess Schrade or Ulster made. Looks to be in decent condition. You can call it 9494. Congrats.

Today, my daily trip to the post office produced this Craftsman (pattern 9494), 3 blade, swelled center, "whittler" pocket knife.
More than likely produced by Schrade, it is a most welcome addition to the Camillus 72 variation family. It needed a minor cleaning, it received a minor cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

I posted the three different tang stamps for the Schrade 863 "whittler" pocket knife on page 18.
Here:

Below, I've posted pictures of the two different tang stamps for the Schrade made, Craftsman 9494 "whittler" pocket knife. I now have 6 of the 9494s. 4 of them have the tang stamp in the 1st or top picture. The other 2 have the tang stamp in the 2nd or bottom picture. If there are other tang stamps for the 9494 pattern ONLY, please post it/them.

I just obtained this pocket knife. Another Camillus 72 variation, another (probably Schrade made) Craftsman, 3 blade, swelled center, "whittler." It is a pattern 9494 and as far as I can tell, it isn't stamped or marked as such. "If" the tang stamp doesn't say USA, then it is the third different, 9494 pattern tang stamp. The other two are posted just above this posting. When I receive it, it'll get the once over. I'll take some pictures and post them in the appropriate location(s).

Today this pocket knife arrived. Another Camillus 72 variation, another (probably Schrade made) Craftsman 9494, 3 blade, swelled center, "whittler", my seventh. I thought I had a third style of a 9494 pattern tang stamp. I thought it was just stamped CRAFTSMAN, but it is stamped 9494 and also stamped U.S.A. They can barely be seen (right below CRAFTSMAN in the last picture). Click on a picture to ENLARGE. It received a minor cleaning, pictures were taken and here it is.

That's in pretty nice shape Skip.
Schrade moved out of walden and into ulsters factory in Ellenville, NY in 1957. After that point schrade and ulster were very closely related, and schrades were slightly different from what they were before. You could say that was the end of ''true'' schrades. When schrade and ulster were in the combined factory they did have some slight differences in style of their brands (like different swedges and things like that) but the core of everything was the same. The same but different sort of thing.
I don't know if your knife was before or after that change but it is ulster because of the bone, schrade did not use rogers bone.

Paul, thank you for the compliment and the Schrade/Ulster information.
