Well boys I just picked this up from my buddy Justin Hosier and was glad to take it off his hands. Thanks to you bunch of PA LOVERS I read all these one nigh I could not sleep and as I know most of you, esp PA knives. I had to have this girl, so here she is a Wolfertz & Co Allentown PA. Rig, I was luck enough to get this beauty on E-Bay off my buddy Justin and was tickled. She is in excellent condition. Great old knife Rig, Dennis

That is an awesome Wolfie, saw it on the bay and wondered why Justin didn't call me first!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!! really a nice one. It is a variation of the C.F. Wolfertz stamp. If you notice it is just Wolfertz. I believe it may be the older of the two stamps. I have a barlow with that stamping and its all steel and no brass. You got a nice one for sure. Darn that Justin any ways

I have a some wonderful friends in the knife world and this is one knife that proves it. When it comes to TIDIOUTE knives, this one is the Holy Grail.

This knife is from the first TIDIOUTE Cutlery Co. 1898 to 1902. Green bone whittler.

When I first found this knife I just didn't have the cash to buy it. I hated to see it go, but we all know that sometimes you just have to walk away disappointed. My good friend Fran (Sauconian to members here) said he would buy it.

Well a short time past and I thought about that knife nearly every day. (something only you guys on this forum would understand) I finally approach Fran with some items that he might like for his collection and we made a deal. Now I know he really wasn't in a hurry to dispose of this knife, but he did know that I really wanted it.

My thanks go out to Fran, I have owned it now for several years and it is the prize knife of my Tidioute collection.

To me, these types of events and adventures is what makes this hobby so enjoyable. Trust me, there are a lot of Frans out there in the knife world.

Kinda like upnorth sending me his only Wolfertz harness jack from his HJ collection. Or how I acquired the CB Hunter I posted on the previous page. I badly wanted that one, so I bid high when I saw it on a Voyles auction. Another forum friend saw it on the last night of bidding, and knew I'd really want it too. He couldn't reach me by phone or email to tell me about it, and didn't want me to miss out on it, so he just outbid me for it. Well worth a couple extra bucks to see what kind of friends you make in the knife world, or here on AAPK !

Some knives just belong with certain people...like David and that Tidioute.

I still have my memories. I hope you don't mind David, if I post my photos which shows (on my computer ) the color of the green bone better, and both stamps.

Drum roll please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For your viewing pleasure, here is a rare one. I have only seen one other. This one is road hard and put a way wet, but check out the AWESOME bone handles on this old girl.

Eldred Cutlery, Eldred PA. This was at one time a moose pattern. It is heavy duty and well made. I love the worm groove handles. Check your history books and see the progression of this company. After the Platts boys left town, a few remain cutlers gathered together to form this company. It didn't last very long. Maybe a five years at best. Although info is VERY hard to find on them.

With this piece, I only need something from Smethport PA to complete my collection of Pennsylvania manufacturing companies that made pocket knives. How exciting is that?
