It is genuine stag, 100% certain. I don't think it has been rehandled.

The pattern is 884, which is a number not shared with any other schrade walden that I know of. They didn't catalog stag knives in the walden era but they did have unique pattern numbers on ones I've seen. It also has coined nickel silver liners, whereas the regular bone version of this pattern (the 879) has brass liners.

That is a beauty Paul, I really like it. As Roland said, Schrades with original genuine stag are hard to find. Yours doesn’t look to me like the imitation stag they used.

Thank you Ken, I really like it too. I am certainly happy to have it.

The delrin stag schrade used was on the uncle henry line and some craftsman branded models. This round bolster 4'' stockman pattern eventually had delrin but it was the imitation jigged bone type and they also had a match striker pull main.

Here is a picture of Camillus "India Stag". The back handle on the S-W Stockman 884 to me looks somewhat similar.

897UH. Not as nice as Paul's Walden, but it was in my pocket for 30 years. Deciding to retire it and look for something new led me to this sight. This is a great forum and I can't say enough about the great advice from genuine knowledgeable people. Thanks

Stumbled in and thought I would post a picture or two of some of my stockman.
First is a locking Camillus stockman. Next is an old Western. Next is a Puma I bought almost 40 years ago and have never talked myself into using. And one more a Moore Maker.

Yes, i selected the pic of Folding Hunter because the India Stag on it looks similar to the real stag on the SCC stockman. Actually i found almost no other pics of India Stag in the Camillus forum. I have seen some Camillus with India Stag even more convincing than that on the F.H. knife. I used to have a few examples but have sold them so had to look around for a picture to show what i was talking about and that it is different from Schrade "Staglon".

Runted, some excellent examples of reasonably recent stockman knives. The Puma is a beauty. Seems a shame to not carry it and make it your companion.

Really like that Western

The Western is stamped 742C, here is a 742D and a W742. And the last Western stockman I have a 658D.

I have looked thru my knives and I these are some of the oldest I have. Way down here in Mississippi we don't run up
on some of the brands that other people find. And the ones I run up on are usually used up.
The first one is stamped B. Svoboda. Then I have this Frontier that belonged to my father-in-law. Here is a Boker U.S.A. Here is a Queen #9

I just received this dandy of a vintage stock knife today. Camillus 81 DeLuxe 3 7/8''. Bone handle with coined nickel silver liners and etch. Very nice condition.

Man! That one knocks my socks off Paul, you really nailed it this time . Kudos to ya .
