All About Pocket Knives

Very cool Ripster!!! One of those ring knives has been on my list now for some time...

... but I did check off the list another type... the English Barlow with neat red, white & blue Kirinite handles thanks to a fellow AAPK member, Coreysbu...


...also was lucky enough to pick up this Hawbaker Special. According to Rich Langston, whom I bought the knife from, it is a prototype. Now I know the Hawbaker Special went into production, but I don't know if it was offered with the red jigged bone handles & I haven't seen any production knives with embossed bolsters. I did forget to ask him what year was it made... would be nice to know.


He also included this nice wood presentation case, altho it is not for the Hawkbaker as the insert clearly shows it was for some kind of three bladed knife like a whittler of some sort. Does anyone know what knife was offerd with this case?

The shape of the cutout in the display box looks like it might have been for a cannitler.

The embossed hawbakers were made for a special set of seven display knives. I don't recall how many sets were made but normally they were done on lots of around 25. They were commissioned by Red Hill Cutlery in 2009. The red bone knives were part of the production runs.




The display case was made for a pearl three blade equal end that was a collaboration knife between Queen and Canal Street. I think it was called the President series or something akin to that. It marked the beginning of their relationship when Canal Street first started up, buying Queen parts to make their knives until their own designs were put into production.

Mike... Never even considered a Cannitler... and I happen to have one to see if it would fit... spear blade is a bit fatter than the insert, but it can be made to fit. Does make for a nice way to display the knife... especially since it may be quite some time (if ever) before I can get an original one Eric described.

Thanks Ripster. Don't tell me I'm the only one still on the prowl in adding more CSC's to my collection!

I'm tickled to have obtained this one... 2009 AAPK stockman...
It was only after I purchased it that I found it was the first year AAPK started offering limited edition annual issues & that the shield came from Schrade.


Next is one of their ubiquitous patterns... the single blade Half Moon Trapper. What attracted me to this one tho was the Cream Soda (Carmel) colored jigged bone handles. On the description label, "Cream Soda" is typed, but someone handwritten "Carmel", so I'm not sure if the company changed its mind on what to called the handle material or if someone else didn't like what they called it.


...and I saved the best for last... the 2009 Friends of NRA (FNRA) D'Holder (CSCC Bowie Hunter) with a Gold blade etch of a moose (My girlfriend's nickname is Moose.) and peened genuine leather handle. My only disappointment is that it didn't come with a leather sheath... only a cardboard one with the CS sticker on it, but then again it's more for display than to carry...

KAW those are three excellent examples of Canal Street goodness. Congrats on adding them to your collection.

I have not stopped hunting for Canal Street knives to add to my pile, but I sure have slowed down due to escalating prices and limited availability.

Phil... my comment was based on my surprise that there hasn't been any new pictures posted since my last back ion the 1st of November... but keep up the good hunt.

I looked on Ebay and there is 34 Canal Street on it and as Phil said all bringing big bucks and there is only 4 on AAPK and 2 of them are mine . Thought I would share these Red Stag Canal Street I Have .

This is the only CSC knife i have left. Not a new addition. I bought it in 2015. Made by Eric Albers for BladeForums, 4" Serpentine Double End Shadow Jack, 440C & Mexican Bocote.
I think it is one of the best knives that was made at CSC.

Roland that is a beautiful knife. The veins of color on that are over the top.

I didn’t think I cared for those red stag knives when they came out, but seeing them all together like that has changed my mind. Those are really nice.

Thank you Mark. Yes this Bocote wood is about as fine as it gets. But there is so much more to admire in this knife. The design is superb, all just essential folding knife, no embellishments and it all flows together to create perfect 'balance'. And then there is the precise workmanship with just the right amount of spring tension and snap. Topped off with steel liners.
I am lucky to have this knife. There are not many 'out there'.

Do you know if that model was the last knife that Canal Street Cutlery made before they closed their doors? I remember someone saying that it was but I never got any confirmation.

Rick it is my understanding that that was the final knife produced by Canal Street Cutlery before they shut down. If I'm wrong, I hope Eric will let us know otherwise.

So...are you guys considering the Co-Op knives as separate from the Canal Street Cutlery knives?
The last Co-Op knives were the second run of Red Trouts and the Moore Makers.

I did not realize that the BF knife was the last of the CSC knives. Makes the one i have all the more special
