All About Pocket Knives

The pen blade has to be pushed closed on this one but handles (much better than my picture) are just gorgeous in person. I'm glad I bought it.

I, personally, love the far from perfect knives. They serve as a reminder to the long history of each knife and, in some ways represent the changes that have occurred over those many years. Not only did they withstand the test of time but they did so despite being up against a world that was constantly changing. I clean and repair the knives to an extent. So far, I've never added anything to any knife (blades, handles, etc..). I do realize that, in alot of cases, such repairs are required in order to prolong the life of the knife and in order to restore it's functionality. Sometimes though, I get just as much joy and pleasure out of a knife that is merely cleaned, maintained, and that showcases it's history.

Mine is definitely a small one..

I picked up this broken and battered old Utica sleeve board out of a $1 box at the last flea market. Fairly nice handle material with Federal shield. But if you look closely the second blade has been broken off, and the tang ground off flush with the bolster. You can see the brass catchbit alongside the broken tang. Unsure what I will do at this time, either replace broken blade or leave as is.

Someone went to great lengths to erode the dignity of this old Pearl, but they failed.
She's still a sweety. Just a bit bedraggled.

Here is a Case 6366 Greenbone with perfect aged bone. It has the diamond shield. Now the blades are the issue with the old gal. But I still enjoy carrying her every now and then. Thanks for looking.

Someone really loved that one - nearly to death.

Picked up this nice Wostenholm 2 bladed pruner but the main hawkbill blade is missing. Cool saw blade.

Nice looking old handles on that knife, bet it really feels great in the hand. I wouldn't have thought twice about buying that one, Broken Blade or not.

It does fell good in the hand and the saw blade has a hard snap to it. Your right I could not resist it even with the missing blade

Mike, I don't know when I have seen a saw blade with a pruner. Of course it makes perfect sense.
I have several pruners and no saw blades.

With your great collection it's nice to know you will own a knife like this. No surprise really with your love of knives.
It looks like the blade was removed.

I think it's a real beauty and I certainly would have bought it too.

Here is one I found few months past.

There hasn't been a post in this thread in awhile, so I will add this one that I picked up today for $1 at the flea market. I think it is a Cattaraugus, although there is no tang stamp left on either blade. On the back of the master blade is the pattern number 22949, which according to my Bruce Voyles book is a Cattaraugus number for what this is, a 4 1/4" bone handled cigar pattern. The bone is still nice, the master blade is lazy, and the pen blade is broken. If I can find a suitable pen blade I will replace that and call it an EDC.

OC, hope you post a pic when you're finished. I bet it turns out good. Lovely old knife needs a little love.

O.C., Yep, 22949 "Large, equal end jack". Some had filed bolsters. Oldie but a goodie. J.O'.

Someone tell us what the owner of this OLCUT used it for to wear out a blade that size without any damage to the scales ??!! Maybe he snapped it and reground it to a point. I bought it for $2 just to give it a retirement home. The other full one is just for comparison. J.O'.

Nice one! I'm sure you can find another single blade pruner for a donor knife.The two blades aren't common at all.

My beat up old Case Bradford 6231 1/2. Both blades broken, and missing some bone on the pile side...

Broken, Battered, Beat-Up, Bruised and rusty old knife. Couldn't quite call this old '65-'69 Moose beautiful even though it had to be once upon a time. We were getting out of the car at church this morning and one of my friends handed me this knife. He found it in an old tool box and thought of me. Treefarmer

Restore that puppy and throw it in your pocket Treefarmer! Give it a second life!
