All About Pocket Knives

Mine came with all the original packaging. No cannula was included.

Here is an very lightly used EMPIRE WINSTED CT. advertising pen knife. It says S-LESS FIRTH-STERLING STAINLESS STEEL E. K. CO. I do believe this company is out of McKeesport, Pennsylvania. I think this probably dates from the early 1920's. I can not tell what the pin material is. It looks soft and has a silvery-gold appearance (hard to tell from the pictures). If any one can enlighten me, please do so.

Notice that I said the Eli Lilly "originally" came with a cannula to insert in the trachea.

I think some liability insurance company or an attorney or possibly a court case persuaded them to discontinue the gifting of a knife for the express purpose of cutting someone's throat. Not every MD is truly qualified to perform a tracheotomy.

Here's a trivia question for ya Charlie. There was an episode in M.A.S.H. when Father Mulcahy had to perform a trach on an injured mate and did so,(under the guidance of Hawkeye via walkie talkie) with a pocket knife and by inserting the end of a pen thus acting as the cannula. What was the pocket knife he more than likely used? Any takers? Rocky

Since you mentioned MIL-Ks, I just got this 1981 Camillus from treefarmer. Yeah, I know they're as common as rats on a wharf but this one is mine.
And while we're at it, I really like this Buck Spitfire 722.

I have found the Camilla one's like yours to be a very good solid knife Jerry and that pattern is the first all metal folder that was made for the US army.

it's a OLDIE TOO.......
from my research i think it was made at the name change TRANSITION from ATTLEBORO CHAIN CO. to MARATHON which happened right around end of 1917 beginning of 1918.

I like shiny things too, just prefer the oldies over new stuff, and every once in a while I am lucky enough to find a 100 year old knife in unused condition they way it left the factory
