Thanks Ivoryman. It was made in China and reassembled in the USA. It's a re-handle. It started out as the bottom knife in the first picture. I had the same thing done to one of my GEC Churchills a few years ago. Each time the shield had to be hand made from scratch and inlaid.

I really enjoyed it, and I picked up quite a few Second-quality knives to rehandle or repair. Some of their Seconds are only good for parts, but if you look them over you can find hundreds that are easily repairable, in many brands that they contract, including Remington and Moore Maker.
They had several sales on First Quality knives too, and I probably should have picked up a few of those for Christmas gifts. Oh well, maybe next year!

In the left-hand column are:
Two keychain tacticals, a small stockman (1st quality, but old stock), and a yellow Moore Maker stockman.
Center column:
Bear peanut, and Bear stockman, a Moore Maker trapper with Bird Guthook, and an official Boy Scout camper.
Right column:
Various pieces of discount bone and stag, and a Moore Maker Jumbo Trapper in Buffalo horn.

I bought just enough to qualify for a free cap!

I had lots of fun, and I fully plan to do this again next year!

Awesome scores! Spyderco did one online last year, and even heavily discounted, I spent over $100 on three knives. Bear and Son is more in my price wheelhouse. Alabama is closer than Colorado, too.


I didn't know Bear had produced a CAT knife! Weird that it's blue and not black or yellow. I'll have to track one down that has been engraved properly. I have one in red I bought not long after Bear had launched the line of keychain slipjoints.

I think that Moore Maker trapper's secondary blade is actually supposed to be a hoof pick; but is really a gut hook that has not been sharpened. These are very unsafe to use on horses compared to the proper shape like knives like AG Russell Horseman and the Case Trapper with a hoofpick secondary.

Those Scouts are from about 2008-9 (I know they were in the Scout Stuff catalog not long after I joined the BSA); so it's weird to see something that old.

I didn't have any of these so I purchased this nice little 3 blade Owl Head brand knife.

Got in another box full of knives today and spent all night cleaning, lubricating and polishing. I've got another box coming next Friday with patterns to fill in series that I like. When I get the groups all together, I'll post some pics.

I did get a couple of oddballs in this batch... a Marlin spike German sailor's knife. It was dirt cheap and it is a really great knife. I also got an Italian army knife. It looks like it's been sitting in a shed for decades. It's going to take a while to get it lubed enough to be usable.

Here is the German Sailor's Knife. It cost $14. Beautiful knife. It reminds me of a Victorinox. The marlin spike locks- they use that to untie knots in ropes. The blade is stamped TSR Rostfrei.

Just in is this Henckels/Boker 4" Stockman. I think the stag covers look very good. Everything tight and snappy as it should be. One thing I appreciate about these knives is that their closing is very positive with an excellent snap, but do not have the ferocious alligator snap which some people like.

Arriving this afternoon, a Henckels/Boker Whittler with jigged bone covers.

I've found a pretty amazing knife and it only cost $7.

My interest in knife collecting is the design and how it suits a particular use. The farmer's knife (aka Sod Buster) is a simple, elegant design that perfectly fits the needs of the intended audience in an efficient, inexpensive way. I've seen Sod Busters with fancy handles and special steel, but that goes against what this kind of knife is all about. I got the Case full size Sod Buster and Sod Buster Jr, but the fit and finish is pretty mediocre... lots of gaps and crunchy joints. They also have unnecessary engraving in the blade branding them. If a knife like this is going to have branding it should be for some farm product like fertilizer or animal feed.

I got a Rite Edge pearl handled stockman that I liked, so I decided to try a few of their work knives. This one arrived yesterday. It was dry at first. The joints needed some oil and the wood needed a coat of wax, but once I did that, the knife really shined. It's got brass liners, no half stop, the blade is simple stainless with a brushed finish. It feels great in my hand and it's very well made... solid with no manufacturing flaws. I like it better than the Case models. For $7 delivered from Amazon, this is one of the best deals I've ever stumbled across.

Even though this isn't a fancy knife, it perfectly meets the need it was designed for. I give it a ten out of ten.

Certainly a good looking knife. The natural wood handle is very attractive.

I got the gardening knife too. Again $7 shipped. Really nice hawkbill with two cuts out of it to cut branches with. Secondary blade with a saw on the base. I recommend the wood handled ones.

Here is what arrived today... Keeping with work knives with wooden handles, here is a Svord Peasant Knife. They make a smaller one too. This is a very simple friction folder, but it's a brilliant concept. It's easy to toss in a tool kit or hang from a belt loop. The steel is 01 Swedish high carbon steel and it is tough and takes a mean edge. Right out of the box it's super sharp. Not expensive. $23.50, and a sheath for it in New Zealand lamb hide is $4.50. I have a Svord bowie and their metal working is fantastic. They make sturdy tools that are designed to be used.
