I found a batch of about 50 yellows last week. We had plenty of rain since so I went out today, only found 8

. The past couple days have only been in the 50's so maybe that slowed them down a bit. A few years ago when we had good weather I was finding 6-8 lbs a day around mothers day. I am out of canned morels so hopefully things will pick up. I like to put up a case or two of pints whenever I can to have some during the winter months and just in case the weather doesn't cooperate the next season. It seems like every 3-4 years we have an exceptional year, in-between there is always late frosts, or it's a drought that screws them up.

More monster gills today. Caught eight that were 1 lb 5 oz -1 lb 6 oz caught a total of 17 and all were over a pound a piece

. I had 4 lb test broken twice on the hook set.

Talk about FUN on a lightweight spinning rig!

The top of that cooler is just shy of 3 feet wide.

Incredible bluegill catch, MM! I love catching bluegills because they are a hard fighting fish for their size, and a mighty good eating fish too.

A photograph which makes me wonder, if man has trained birds-of-prey to hunt for him for hundreds of years, has he also trained such birds to catch fish for him too?

I know that cormorants are used in some parts of Asia to dive down and bring back something (I forget what), but has anyone ever trained a shore bird to grab fish and then give it up to man?

I'm with ya Joe! There were several more in the yard all doing the same thing. My brother lives next door and we share the yard. He has been taking care of the turkeys there for almost ten years. Did you notice the bale of hay in the back ground? I practice archery when I can. I told my sister in law that those birds you look mighty tasty! She told me to not to mess with them. Soon the hens will be raising their babies in that yard. We live at the edge of the American River Parkway and many animals seek refuge in that yard because they know they are safe! Her are a couple of pics from the same area. A bald eagle in the first and a nice little black tailed buck.

Looks like a real nice place to live, Randy. I lived in the Bull river valley in western Montana for a while.
Loved the wild life there.

I lived up the hill in Grass Valley for 5 years. 2003' to 2008'. Pretty area. Also did a 20+ year stint in SO CAL, Orange County.
Did not realize the diverse wildlife you have in your area. Really beautiful stuff. American River up from Auburn to Placerville on HWY 49 is also some real pretty country.

Jerry I have to agree about the highway 49 area. I worked for State Parks for around 12 years. Started in the Auburn Recreation area and Coloma at the gold discovery site. Great roads to ride motorcycles too. Even spent some time in So. Cal in Riverside County. Worked at Lake Paris for a while. Then took a job as a security supervisor in Temecula. But the gold country of Northern California is home. Here I am within two hours of the ocean, the Sierras, as well as the desert. Lots of beauty here. Even the residents of the area don't realize how much is here!
