Very good looking old 99. I've never had one, but they sure do intreague me.
Colonel:

Well I'll warn ya. They can be like potato chips, can't eat just one. If an opportunity comes your way look for the pre 1960 built guns. That would be anything under a SN of 1 million. It's like the pre 64 Winchester thing. The biggest item that changed is the spool magazine replaced by a detachable box magazine (except in the model E). And the safety moved from the lever to the top tang.

Some of this is collector gack. If you find one and you like it....

Sounds like a precursor to outsourced manufacturing (think global). I haven't kept up so maybe they're already doing that.

Edit: Understanding that no one cares what I think, I'm glad I live in a country where I'm still free to express my opinion out loud. I don't like generic names like that, especially for an old traditional and respected company like S&W. To me it feels like tear down the old, make way for the new.
My guess is that firearms will continue to be branded as Smith & Wesson. I agree JerryD, it would be incredibly dumb (in my opinion) to throw away such an iconic brand. American Outdoor Brand is probably going to be something like a holding company that allows them to "diversify" (aka dilute) what they sell.

Tangent alert...

A few years ago I was building an earthen dam to form a lake on some property I own in Southern Illinois. I didn't want any trouble from neighbors, local government, etc. so I asked for a 100 year flood study, an endangered species study, and an archaeological study. At the time, my dad was still alive and still lived in the county. I told him what I was doing and that I needed to find a lawyer. My dad was a tough guy. He asked me wasn't this my property and why can't I decide what I'm going do and why am I doing all these studies and why do I need a lawyer? Long story shorter... He told me I should use his lawyer so I asked "who is your lawyer?". He told me he was represented by Smith & Wesson. :)

Just read the WSJ article on this... They are only changing the name of the holding company from, Smith & Wesson Holding Corp, to American Outdoor Brands. The firearms division is still going to be S&W.

Once again I've ran my pie hole with too little information caused by zero research. I despise that in others, yet I do it myself way too many times. My apologies.

Free shipping, too, for orders over $25 (it applied free shipping on the $24.99 for me). Cheapest I have seen it in awhile.

That's a pretty good buy, Carmillus.

The had a grand opening of a Dick's Sporting Goods down here a couple of weeks ago. They sent out a local flyer that had 25% off coupons, and some $10 off coupons, as well as some items marked down. I picked up a few of those Federal 325 packs for about $10 a piece after all the discounts.

Unfortunately that was a one time deal for the Grand Opening.

Academy Sports opened two stores in this area Friday 11/18; one in Greenville and one in Jacksonville. I got some blind burlap for my duck blind, had two $10.00 coupons so I got two packages free. Didn't need any ammo, but they had plenty in stock - maybe with President Trump in office the panics will subside and life as a sportsman will return to normal for a few years. OH

Picked up a couple of Remington UMC boxes. The 44-40 box has never been opened. How does that happen?

A box of 32 S&W Long and a box of 32 S&W. These are 50 cartridge boxes. Look at the prices marked on the boxes. The second photo is a box of 25 automatics and a box of 22 short blanks. I think these are all 1980's and older.

That US Cartridge box dates from just after WW I to @ 1936. US Cartridge was done then, Winchester bought them. Google is a wonderful thing. :D

Don't throw that one out.

If your Henry is original you want the rim fire 44. One day I'll have a box of those but they bring crazy money. I do have one tho.

When I was a boy and then young man, my Dad and I collected Smith & Wesson pistols.

Several years ago, one of the big auction houses had a nice collection for sale and I copied the auction photos.

There are a lot of them.

I think I'll post some of them here just to stimulate a little nostalgia and admiration for a brand that might be disappearing.

These were never my guns.
