Thanks Ken.

After looking in my book, I think this guy is a Red Shouldered Hawk.

Kinda looks like a red shouldered hawk. But I'm often wrong about a lot of identifications. Cool pic none the less .

I am too, doglegg.
I used to be more astute but any more it's enough just to take pictures of the birds.
I enjoy them just as much.
Thank you for the nice comment.

That's a great shot Homer, love those birds too. Love to hear them thumping on a pole or old rotted tree around here. Can hear them a long way away.

It’s common to see a lot of cardinals at our feeders. Earlier today I looked out the window and saw a bird at the feeder that looked like a cardinal, except it was mostly white. It had a white head and body, with red-brown wings and tail feathers, and some red in the top knot, but the predominant color was white. Right size for a cardinal and had the typical cardinal top knot. It was at the feeder along with a bright red male cardinal. I went to get my camera to snap a picture but while I was looking through the view finder it and the other birds flew off. When I looked one of our cats was sitting under the feeder. ::dang::

Never saw the bird again but I find nothing like it in my bird books. ::shrug:: Hopefully it will return so I can get a picture and figure it out. ::hmm:: Anyone seen anything like it?

Ken

It sounds like a mutant. I don't know the proper scientific term but various "morphs" do occur.

Speaking of Cardinals. Yesterday afternoon I had 3 male Cardinals (two female) hyperactive in driving each other away. This went on for a long while which I judged as foolish because they were expending all their energy which they should be saving up to resist the cold. Later I saw all the seed was gone so I replaced it. The Cardinals returned and this time no fighting. They each minded their own business. I believe the most aggressive Cardinal was probably defending his territory and female.

Ken there's several photos of cardinals with various colors on the net.
I've had a great morning for bird watching. Mr. and Mrs pileated came by Mr and Mrs Hairy was here also and Mrs redbelly showed her stuff. Didn't get picture of the Downey woodpeckers and Nuthatches but the were here also.

Awesome photos. I am envious of your woodpecker variety.

I did get 5 Cardinals today. Rarely had 3 before.

I think this is a Yellow-Bellied Sap Sucker. If so, it's a first for me as I've never seen one here previously. It sure matches up with the picture in my bird book. What do y'all think ?

Garry I have not had the numbers of House Finches I've had at times, but I still had several. I'd guess a dozen or thereabouts although it's hard to tell unless they all show up at the same time. Frequently they would be interspersed with gold finches (or at least that's what I think they were.)

I have a pair of Eastern Rosellas nesting in a nest-box in my backyard.
They are very timid, and very hard to get up close for photos...Ken
