It's a burnt orange, it's kinda mellow in comparison to fluorescent safety orange.
It's a really good color, I enjoy it.

Here's another pic with studio lightning.

here is a few more of my daily rotation. a few of my favorites are the small mid 50,s case that was my great grandpa edc, the ka-bar that was my grandpa's edc and the old timer stockman, which was my fathers edc. all these people are no longer here so the mean the world to me and love how they some patina to them, you know they have been there and done that.
not sure about the queen and how old it is,if anybody has any info, i would be greatly appreciative it was one of my grandpa's rabbit skinners (i grew up on a rabbit farm in the early 70's with my grandpa and grandma over, 700 rabbits white new zelands)

Johnny doesn't want to admit it, but he's slowly getting in touch with his inner Opinel.

Oh yeh... it will happen.

In nearly all cases, I'm carrying one of the below. Crappy picture but easier for reference sake....

The EDC pile by Pinnah, on Flickr

The top 2 picks had been (before Christmas) the Schrade 5OT and Opinel #8. Since Christmas, it's been the Buck 500, but that is beginning to waver and I've not even taken the lights off the house yet.

The Opinel has a blade that is a bit longer than everything other than the 110 and yet it's the lightest, by far. I've not fallen into a good groove in terms of keeping the stainless knives sharp. They keep a good tough working edge well enough but not a hair popping edge. With the 1095, a few passes with the strop brings back the shaving edge, but not so with stainless knives. I have more to learn on that front.

The 500 is changing things, as is the 482. The 482 displaced the Opinel for backpacking duty. It rides in the essentials pouch in my day back (stays in the back of the car all the time). The 110 isn't getting carried on weekends anymore. The 500 is more manageable in every way. The 5OT is not seeing use right now. I like the size to carry but every time I use the blade, I think, this just isn't enough. So... the daily carry decision right now is between the 500 and the #8. The 500 is winning currently due to the novelty, but the last 2 days has been a toss up.

The Buck 500 startles people more when I open it compared to the Opinel. I find that interesting.

Dave, it's not gonna happen, it's not gonna happen...... did you say 1095???? ::mdm::
I'll have to look around, but I don't see it happening.

Strange that the 500 would be the one getting looks, that #8 seems to have a more extreme clip/point blade than the drop point of the 500. I don't get people at times, it's baffling. ::facepalm::
I know exactly what your going through just from reading your post. You have the one you want, or so you think, you try this one and it's good here, but not so there. You try another and it's better at this, but struggles at that. And this is why I question if there is a perfect knife for a knife nut.

You've got the style down pat, a single blade locker.
It's everything else that seems to be giving you fits.

I have one knife that is always on me, no matter what the occasion is. It's a GEC #72 lockback. It's got really slim bone scales so it's an easy carry for the back pocket and with the SS clip blade, it's perfect for food prep. I switch knives out on a regular basis, but this one sticks it out all the time.

It's not even a favorite, it just doesn't fail at anything it does.

Just emptied my right side and took a pic.

The Imperial WW2 knife (gifted to me by paulsvintage) is gonna get the attention it deserves! (attached to paracord)
Other knife is a Vernco I just rehandled and that goes in the Ducks Unlimited sheath.
The SAK it a no brainer.
XIKAR Exodus lighter
Colibri lighter.

Ready for the day!

Just ribbing ya, not agitating or trying to convert.

I've found that a few mouse clicks can put a shiny new one in my mailbox for under $15 - a cheap experiment type price.

I tend to figit with tools in my hands. Drives my wife nutty. "Don't you own a single piece of equipment that you have left unmodified? Why do you change everything that you buy?" When I got my son his, I force aged it. Here's a list of things that I think help with that knife.
+ Use a file to knock off the hump and front top of the clip to make it more of a gentle drop point.
+ Buff out the grind marks on the blade to of a mirror, then force patina
+ Sand out the inner faces near the pivot for easier open/close. (I'm not a thumber but in the shop, I appreciate the ability to open/close my Opie with one hand at times.)
+ Remove and file down the lock ring so it spins further for a more complete lock.
+ Sand entire handle, knock off any sharp edges, reshape to suit.
+ Stain handle to taste and finish off with favorite finisher (I like Tung Oil)

A work mate of mine has an Opinel #8 that he carries. We'd never get them confused in the lunch room. Mine's mine now. They're sort of the Tandy leather working kits of the knife world. More like project starters.
Strange that the 500 would be the one getting looks, that #8 seems to have a more extreme clip/point blade than the drop point of the 500. I don't get people at times, it's baffling. ::facepalm::
The 500 is a much more substantial looking knife in all ways. The handle is beefier by a long shot and the blade is wider spine to edge and thicker side to side. Opened, it looks like a shiny hunting knife despite the drop point. I've de-clipped my Opinel and once opened, it looks more like a small kitchen knife or steak knife. Looks more familiar to people I think.

Also, unless you take care to work the back spring when opening the 500, it locks with the same loud, staccato *SNAP* that Buck 110 does. The Opinel is entirely silent when opened and I think most people don't even know it was locked when opened.

Lastly, I've buffed out the blade and bolsters of the 500 because that's how it's supposed to look if you know what I mean but it's got that look of a Jerry Clower climbing out of a 75 Coupe De Ville. (I probably just dated myself.) IMO, Opinel's shouldn't shine and when they don't they look more like relics.

It's got really slim bone scales so it's an easy carry for the back pocket and with the SS clip blade, it's perfect for food prep. That looks just about perfect to me.

I have a multitude of knives from many size, style, ages and price range. However, the chive from Kershaw is my favorite everyday carry, hands down! The assisted index finger action is outstanding and the knife is super strong and just bullet proof, especially in this black matte coated cofig. I picked up a new one for christmas, before they are, with my luck, gone forever. So my '07 which is beat up but far from dead, will go in the trout tackle box for further use and safe keeping. Moreover, it's made right here in the good ole USA. Say what you will about that new style mucky muck, it's still rock and roll to me.
