Here's one I picked up the other day. More fodder for my pearl fetish.

A tested era 82042.

Thanks Steve! It's a little bit of a departure from the usual rounded bolster pen knives. Kind of caught my eye.

I looked it up in my 4th Sargents and didn't see this listed, it does show an 82042 with slanted bolsters though. 15th Price & Zalesky same thing. Have you found this variation in your references? Not questioning the knife Greg, just puzzling as to this not being listed. Cool pen anyway.

I did check my Sargents 7th and found the straight bolster in bone in the tested era and pearl from the Bradford era so it could be rehandled or perhaps a transition knife. I'm happy with it either way.

Nice knife Greg. I think the tested and older pearl are the most under rated knives out there. They are some of my favorites

In today's mail I received a very interesting pair. (Well, at least interesting to me!)
They are a pair of all stainless gentlemen's pen knives. The one on the top has a Tested XX (1920-1940) tang stamp, and the other is marked as a 1965-1969). The Tested XX knife doesn't have a pattern mark (or it is worn off), the other has its M279 mark. Should the Tested XX normally have a pattern mark? It is interesting how much thinner and *at least to me) more elegant the older version is. However, the newer version is easier to actually use with the more accessible nail nick.

It is more common for Tested XX knives to
not include pattern numbers. When a Tested XX knife does have a pattern number marked, my opinion is that the knife is an older Tested XX knife (i.e., made closer to 1920). Many Case Bradford era (1914-1920) knives were marked with pattern numbers. I believe your perception of "elegance" on the old knife is valid and, while subjective, is an effective way of determining when a knife may be misrepresented. Here is a recent example:

Nice knives.

TFL you had better be careful. Those old Case knives can become quite addicting. Here's one I found in my mail basket today!

Thanks Jerry! It's got a little bit of pitting on the blade but those handles are nice.
