He texted back that it was an early contract knife for Sears, even sent an attachment from the Kastor list of contract knives by Camillus. So although it doesn't say Camillus or 72 it is not a clone as Camillus did make it. I appreciate his expertise. So for me a real find. A first model Sears made by Camillus. It has been well used but so have I. Thanks for looking and thank you Jerry for the initial bug for 72's and for your expertise and time in answering my questions.DSCN6121.JPGDSCN6120.JPGDSCN6122.JPGDSCN6123.JPGDSCN6124.JPGDSCN6126.JPG
Nice one Floyd! It is a Camillus 72 variation so post it under the "clone" topic. ::tu::

There I was, minding my own business, when on the screen pops up this 1st generation 72 with a $35.00 buy it now price. So I did. Pretty excited to find it and it seems to be in great condition but for some over zealous buffing. Thanks for looking.

Jerry the snap is quite good. I compared it to some of my other older 72's and it is better than most.

Honestly Floyd, I never saw it. I also lost out on two Allen Cutlery Company knives that were up for auction on eBay during my recent power outage. ::dang:: ::dang:: ::dang::

Skip, I don't think it was up long before I saw it. It was the same seller that had your HF. And yes power outages do put you at a disadvantage. I look forward to your next finds. ::nod:: ::tu:: ::handshake::

fished this one out of the bay. Unfortunately has "Tex" crudely written on the shield, otherwise a nice 72.
My second 72, but first one is too worn to carry.
I'm enjoying this one. Tex' let go of a good one :)

Not the same Tex but from this ole Texas boy a congratulations to a feller from Mississippi. We often wish knives could talk and that one is giving up a little history. ::tu:: ::tu::

Thank you, doglegg. It certainly is. I didn't even have to name this stray!

Trying to control my excitement but it is a little hard. I ran across this no line tang stamp 72 on ebay. I checked with the master and Jerry said yes he had heard of such but could not remember the particulars. I made the man an offer and he accepted. So my latest fix for the 72 addiction. It was really stiff when I received it but a little gun oil loosened it up.

Yes Sir, Jerry, it is a first generation, bone handles. Used but in pretty good shape.

Thanks gsmith. It is the first no line I had ever seen. Are they usually seen on later editions?

No. They're seldom seen at all. Of all the 72's and other Camillus I've seen, I think less than a half dozen were the "no line" variety.
