Afta a winter of worrying bout my parents health my wife and I gut a up north get-away weekend that was much needed to gods country stayed early season at the Kennebec river at Moosehead lake for sum wild life

How many of them trout does it take to make a meal? I understand they are really delicious.
The only trout we have around here is in salt water, a spotted weakfish. When I was a little feller, say 65 years ago, some of the old and I mean, "old, old timers" used to call the black bass a trout. Hadn't heard that misnomer in many years.

..it don't take many for me,TF, years ago I swapped one of my uncles some filleted bluegill for some trout, I got taken on that deal!!...............I ate a lot of hushpuppies that night!!!...... ..........

Don't know if I'd trade a trout fur a sun fish But those two Land Lock Salmon would make a meal for me TF

Land lock salmon, you say? Shows how little I know about fish up in your part of the world .
Been wantin' to ask you 'bout them coydogs, y'all are after from time to time. Are they a big issue in the woods and how far do the crosses go into the wild critters and is there a lot of coyote blood in some of the yard dogs?

I'll tell ya TF OUR Coydogs are raising havock on the Population of rabbits,squirrel,fox,partridge and young deer and moose.the eastern coyote has according to our biologist breed with domestic and wild dogs creating coydogs In the winter they come into our neighborhoods at night and eat dog turds in our back yards

Dogg, that's a good 'yote! I heard some while out turkey hunting early yesterday morning. I take em when I see em, but that is rare - they are too smart to let a human be too close. OH

Finally found some of those ""Shell-Kracker Bream"" we been hunting this week __ fishing is a little slow for the bass spawn,but found these guys hungry this morning !!!_ ( largest bream was 1lb. 9oz. with several over a pound ** ) ____this is what ya' talking about "good eatin' "", ain't it Carrmillus ???? _________have a great day, Monk

Finally boys, I was set up at 0445 this morning, about 0700 I realized I wasn't going to call one to me, so I stalked down into the swamp where this big boy was strutting. He liked some light yelping on a glass pot, his curiosity got him close enough to take him. Been a lot of hard hunting this season, glad to finally notch my tag! OH

Now what do you do with him?

Thank you gents! Funny you guys should ask - was thinking about how I wanted to cook him on the drive back to the house. I think some Atkinson Milling chicken tender batter, some Crisco, and a cast iron frying pan on my patio gas burner will make up a nice batch of wild turkey tenders! I've tried wild turkey baked and in a casserole, but they are such tough old birds that frying is the way to go. OH

I have a Winchester Defender 1200 that looks real similar to yours. Mine's not as fancy - and has a shorter barrel and extended magazine.

Thanks again gents - most folks don't realize how tough a turkey can be to hunt at times - this season has stressed my skills. Some seasons they come right to you, but not this year. To me that makes every turkey taken in fair chase a "trophy".

Unk, that shotgun is the cousin to yours, a Winchester M1300 Waterfowl edition my Dad bought over 30 years ago and gave to me six or seven years ago - it came from Winchester equipped with a 30" Winchoke waterfowl barrel but I bought the 20" Winchoke turkey barrel and a set of Williams Fire-sights for it right after Dad gave it to me - it's been my dedicated turkey shotgun ever since. I have one of those SC made PureGold turkey chokes in it - they are the business! OH
