Well, I got this Robeson in the mail today and I had to clean it up before I could even handle it. It was filthy.
But I wash all my knives before I put them in the collection. Did I mention this one was filthy.
Crud all over it. I threw the scrubby away.
But it's a very sound knife with lots of blade left.
I sharpened it and oiled it and slid it in my pocket.
It's a nice old carry. 622027 - 3 11/16" closed.

That is very nice Joe, that main blade looks like it's got a couple of lifetimes worth of use left in it.

I did wonder about the colour. My butterbean is much lighter, almost white. I think I like yours better!
Thanks, Ann. This is the only "before" picture I can find. It was white before the green started creeping into the bone:
That is amazing, looks like a different knife. What leather dye did you use, and how did you apply it?
Cudgee, you asked me this question nine days ago but I didn't reply. That wasn't intentional & I apologize. Somehow I just remembered it now.
I used Eco-Flo brand leather dye from Tandy Leather & applied it with a small brush. After it had dried several hours, I wiped it with a rag
& most of it came off. What little dye the bone absorbed is what you see & it seems to be stable. I've tried several applications but the bone doesn't absorb any more with repeated applications. I don't remember, but I'm pretty sure I used Range Tan but it could have been Canyon Tan. Another type of dye might work better but I assume any dye could leave some potentially corrosive residue in places where it can't be wiped off. That knife is SS & so far I've not noticed any problems. I've tried this on some other bone handles & used other dyes but none of the bone handles absorbed a lot of dye. Still, I'm pleased with this one because it covered up the green problem &, to me, it's an improvement

No need to apologize, thanks for answering my question. I find it very interesting and helpful about the bone only seems to take one application. I have never tried to dye the scales of a knife, but i am keen to try, and that bit of information was very useful. Thanks a lot, and you have a good weekend.
