Nice woodpecker and possum bird, Homer!

And nice woodpecker, QS.

Here is a fellow that soared over my backyard this afternoon. Cooper's Hawk, I think, but possibly a Sharp-shinned Hawk.

Joe, that "odd" bird must be in some kind of molting process.
I'm pretty sure if you keep feeding him that bird seed he'll start to grow feathers. Be patient.

I was able to take a picture of this Hawk today. It's not a very big bird. I think it is a immature bird because of its mottled feather pattern. What I think and what is reality often surface at great distance from each other.
And I don't even know what model it is. Handsome rogue.

Very nice shots Mel and Joe. Joe I agree, your hawk is surely an immature. I wonder if you can get to a probable I.D. based on your geographical location.

I was involved in bird identification in the distant past and have several books.
Past years and now past months have not allowed me to pursue it but I'm going to try and pin this hawk ID.

With the research I did I decided that this hawk is a juvenile Red Tailed hawk.

I absolutely love the hawk pictures! Birds of prey are very cool!

Thanks Mel, it was. And yes, I believe it to be a Redtail hawk. They are the most common here in the DFW area. It was perched at the extreme limit of my camera, and I was pleased that the pics came out as good as they did.

Red Tail romance time in Texas. Sorry for the phone pic, didn't have my camera. Also saw two Coopers hawks last evening.

Some years ago in Arizona I witnessed a male Red-Tail transfer a snake to a female. Their altitude was maybe7-800 feet. I assume it was a courting ritual.

That would be cool to see QS. I bet it was a courtship move.

For sure doglegg, he was showing he would be a good provider. I didn't know the male was carrying a snake until I got my binos on him, even tho it was good sized.

shadow, I don't know if your Grosbeck is uncommon in you location, but I just saw them for the first time last year. A great thrill to see these beautiful birds.

Hi Dinadan, last year I made a nest box for the side of our home.
It is mounted about 26' off the ground.
It was not long before a breading pair of Eastern Resellers moved in.
The nesting box is about 6' from one of our windows - they can not see me looking at them.
As the glass in the windows are 1/4" one way glass, the photos are a little out of focus.
