All About Pocket Knives

Thanks Skip, DM and Doc. We seem to be infected with the same disease and from the same fellow.

Floyd, there are several of the Camillus "specials" that I have yet to see one that appears to have had any use. The three 1990's black bones, the Yello-Jaket with the yellow jacket shield, the white 1047 (1980-1984) BSA variety, the McGrew's, the Remington's, the Stanley's and there are a couple more but I can't remember which ones right now.

Congratulations on getting that black bone. They are quite elusive and that bone is gooood.

Thanks for the comments Jerry. I don't have them out but from memory I would agree that the knives you have mentioned that I have all do seem to be unused. I have all that you mentioned but the Stanley. Interesting as to the reason.

Finally found ones of these 72's.

Very cool David. I found one a little while ago. I think they must of been 'last days knives' when Camillus was trying to use up the parts they had. Glad for you that you got it. And it is clean, clean, clean.

Hi Dave, that tang stamp suggests that the knife is from 1989-2007. But the blade configuration is not right for a "later" 72. I agree with Floyd's assessment of using up spare parts. Still, a VERY nice Camillus 72.
The picture below is my "late" pattern, Camillus 72 for comparison purposes.

Its no doubt they were made toward the end of Camillus. I've see more of the Camillus made Remington R14 clones with this blade configuration. I might add this knife does not have a 72 stamped on the pile side of the master blade.

Strange but true, I've got a Camillus 72 with the 72 stamped on the master blade tang, but no Camillus maker stamp on any tang.

You aint the only one that found themselves a #72 lately. I got this one at the gun show last weekend.
(I figured I would post it here Jerry, since this is where it really belongs)
It was a little nasty when I got it. But when I first saw it, I noticed the blade were full.
It turned out pretty nice after a good clean-up.

My folks all came from..... THE SHO NUFF country...
Folks from around here that thought THEY lived in the country would get lost in the woods going to my Grand Parents house.... LOL.
My Dad used to say, they would just turn the hogs aloose (that they got from the sales or raised) and the hogs would go to a swampy oak bottom where they would live. The hogs lived off the acorns and they didn't get fed "slop'. When it got cold weather and time to kill a hog, they would get "the" hog dog and go kill one. So, those hogs lived off acorns I guess.

Yep, that one is my oldest and BEST #72.

....they are getting scarce, mike, I have three!!......... ...................

COOL.... I look for that shape anytime I see a box of knives. Most of the carpenter's whittlers I have found up 'till now have been heavily used.

This 1047 just walked in the door a few minutes ago....
A nice little blank slate for me to fix....
It don't look like it has had a lot of use.

That is a beauty Mike. The one I posted I've had for awhile. I just posted it to show David the difference between his "end of days" 72 and my "later issue" 72.

No problem Mike. I knew you were kidding. I've stopped buying Camillus 72s for now. I'm concentrating on pattern 72 variations. That is of course, unless a Camillus 72 jumps out at me and begs me to buy it.
That one you obtained really is a FANTASTIC L@@KING 72!

.......I like the "72" pattern a lot, but my holy grail is still a split-spring Camillus whittler in good condition!!.......... ..................
