That's good to hear. With that slight curvature to the blade, I doubt my present skill set allows me to sharpen it effectively. My Chive may be pressed into carrier duty on occasion.

Mail carrier dropped off this Rough Ryder RR2187 Mini-Trapper Denium Micarta T-10 Carbon Steel. I like the looks and it's mostly good but the Blades are not Centered. It's a small thing for a knife that will just be part of the herd.

I like those denim Micarta covers.

My pick-ups for today were a 2017 Case Small Stockman with brown Delrin covers and two NOS Camillus 717Ys. They were purchased from Kennedy Knives and Sanders Knives, respectively. Thanks to both for these knives! The two Camillus Trappers (what's the plural form of Camillus, anyway? Camilli?) appear to have spent time in some sort of corrosion preventative compound. If anyone knows how to best remove it, I'd be grateful if you'd enlighten me!

Even though I am generally NOT a fan of Rough Ryder knives, when I stumbled across these two I was intrigued and just couldn't resist--the blades are what really caught my eye. I was hesitant at first because they cost about twice as much as a basic run-of-the-mill Rough Ryder. But, these are "Rough Ryder Reserve" which, apparently, is Rough Ryder's premium brand. So, what exactly does that mean? Well, for starters, they come in much fancier packaging that includes a metal tube with thick pieces of sponge foam in both ends and a polishing cloth. The knives themselves are very solid and well made. The blades are D2 steel and came shaving sharp with positive half-stops and excellent walk-and-talk snap. Fit and finish is nearly flawless; run-up is decent (not perfect but not terrible) and one blade (on the Kayak) is not perfectly centered. Other than those minor issues, I really can't find anything to criticize about these two knives. My only wish is that they had used a single back spring instead of two (since they have an opposing blade configuration the blades could both share a single spring) in order to make them less thick and lighter weight. But, while the weight makes them less pocket friendly, the thickness does allow for good gripping...probably better than if they were narrower with a single back spring.

Good lookin' knife Jerry. ::tu:: Those blades certainly are not centered. ::facepalm:: As you said, it's a small thing, but stuff like that drives me crazy, ::tease:: especially on a new knife. I'm sure it won't affect the knife functioning though. Nice knife in any event, enjoy it. 8)

Nice little haul Dan. ::tu:: I've done business with Matt at Sanders Knives, and received some pearls of wisdom from Gary at Kennedy Knives, and both are as fine of gentlemen as you could ask for. I'm not an English major, but I think your definition of plural for Camillus is accurate. Can't help with the foreign material removal, sorry, but someone will surely be along who can. 8)

Cool knives Q. ::tu:: Paul from overseas has displayed his RR Kayak a number of times, and I like it more every time I view it. But be careful, it's been said that once you handle a RR you're addicted, and you'll be buying more. lol! 8)

Camillus sounds very firmly rooted in Latin, so Camilli sounds at least reasonably close. Fortunately, I have received assistance with that residue. Thanks for your kind words!

~Q~, I like the profile of those two knives but just can't bring myself to spend that much on a Rough Rider. Maybe someday but not now.

Finally received the Victorinox Alox Pioneer Solo I ordered. Great little single blade. It measures 3-11/16 inches closed and 3/8" thick. Here are some photo's. I've included in comparison to a Victorinox Alox Bantam which is 3-5/16 inches closed and 1/4 inch thick. Both good little EDC's. Plus, I have a hankering for Alox handles.

Thanks, Smitty. Phase I of the Camillus Clean-Up will be underway shortly. I like your Pioneer Solo, too, and have to wonder if it's as thin as my Alox Bantam. My collection is sorely lacking in Alox...

I like both of those colors.

My new pick-ups, all Trappers: a pair of crimson peach seed jigged bone from this year, and one from 1978 (the year I was born). Big, big thanks to knifeaholic for the '78!
