Carrying the Old Timer today, good carry in the pocket of Sunday slacks to church, and then good for carrying in jeans while putting up the Christmas tree and decorations - light duty knife work. Just used the pen blade to cut the foil wrapper on a bottle of scuppernong wine.

I guess if we let them get their shopping and stuff done in time for Christmas they will be easier to hunt. So thats why hunting season ends and comes back like that.
So yeah, we do some strange things with our deer "management".

I switch off occassionally.
Today my carry is an Opinel#10 in a flashlight holder.
I also like my Case Yellow Trapper in a Belt Sheath.
Some days an Opinel #12 in a handmade leather sheath fills the bill.
Last but not least a Case Barehead Trapper fits nicely in my Sunday "go to meetin' " pants.

Got this in the mail today from glennbad. Made out of an old Camillus electrician's knife. It came out wonderfully. It will definitely be my new EDC.

These two GEC'S get carried and used everyday, I really like them both. Just got the 85BFC knife a few days ago and the screwdriver and bottle opener come in real handy. The 73 will never leave my pocket. The bottom two photos are when they were new.

Gino, where did you find that 85 easy open? That there is a perfect knife! Can't find it anywhere.
Spent the day doing yard work. Carried my softened 110.
At one point, I needed to cut open the packaging of the replacement buld for the Outback. My daughter was hanging out watching.

It's kind of hokey with the black scales and blade. But Sanrenmu seems to do good heat treating and with brass or otherwise NOT plastic washers it works very well! SRM F4-710

So, partially influence by Gino's stunning 85 and partly by the Canoe I gave a buddy of mine, today I'm carrying my Ulster Camper.
The thing I really like about that 85 is the blade combination. But, I'm more partial to the equal end/cigar profile of the campers. But, but, but... the thinner profile of a canoe makes for fantastic pocket carry. What to do???
Wouldn't it be great to put all three knives into a blender. I'm dreaming of a 2 blade equal end. Spear point on one end and screwdriver/bottle opener on the other. Would it be possible on a single spring to get canoe like thinness? I've never seen such a knife but I can dream.

Dave, it's very possible thanks to the new #68 from GEC. They already offer the spear point so no problem there, it's on a single spring frame so I imagine they could handle up on your screwdriver/bottle opener without sacrificing slimness.
I'm hopeful for a Scout knife out of this new #68 frame, they have everything in place for a great one.
Today:
Stag #56.
#73L.
And a Camiluss medics knife, if it ever quite raining I could get some pics.

Wow. Just looked up the 68s and you're right. Stunning. Replace that second blade with a bottle opener and I'll take mine in ebony thank you very much!!!
I have mixed feelings about the 4 blade camper pattern, which I love dearly. I'm not sure where that design should go. I get the neo-retro sensibility of recreating old designs with fidelity, just to keep the design alive so to speak. But as soon as that happens, the chord is cut from utility and for me the design falls into the trap of being purely a fashion/aesthetic statement. My preference is for things to be made in the traditional style but to allow the form to evolve to stay current in terms of utility. I'm pretty much a freak about traditional designs for bicycles where the term retro-grouch is often booted around. But I dislike old designs that don't work and that are held up or reproduced just for the sake of being old or old looking.
The most glaring examples on the 4 blade camper, which is resting next to my keyboard as I type this, is the can openers on some of the more recent campers that have been made. I'm thinking particularly of the Rough Rider, which is using an older style can opener. To my mind, that's a step backwards and I would hate to see GEC do that. If they make a camper, make it functional and give me a working can opener. Closely related to this, my understanding is that people are having troubles with their bottle opener, which should be easy enough to sort out.
Another issues is the leather punch. I don't deal with working leather straps. My world of camping, backpacking and ski & bike touring is full of nylon webbing, fastex tabs and mole skin & bandages. I think a stunning update of the 4 blade camper would be to replace the awl with a pair of folding scissors. To my mind, that change would move the old classic 4 blade configuration back into the column of truly functional and relevant designs. But, a 4 blade camper with scissors replacing the leather punch would really bring the boil to a head with respect to the tension between the neo-retro desire to replicate old patterns and function. IMO, staying true to function first is the best way to respect the legacy of traditional working knives (or designs of any sort).
Lacking a 4 blade design, I'd actually prefer a thinner 2 blade knife. I keep army style can openers with the stoves/cook kit and keep a tiny SAK in the 1st aid kit for the scissors.
