All About Pocket Knives

Not too recently, this pocket knife arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I bought. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. I did NOT buy the group or lot of pocket knives to obtain this particular pocket knife. But, it did turn out to be a keeper and it did end up being added to my general, pocket knife accumulation. It is a U.S.A., two blades, one tang stamp, 3 1/2" closed, two springs, tipped bolsters, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "U.S.A." The main blade does have a CRISP half stop. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade does NOT have a half stop. The secondary blade does NOT have an opening snap. The secondary blade does NOT have a closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. Absolutely NO cleaning was required. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

What a cool batch for your collection, Skip. Advertising knives are such a huge part of cutlery history. I really like the automotive related ones you have there. Here is a recent acquisition for my collection. It's a LIPIC USA tang stamp, which I believe refers to Joseph Lipic Pen Company, St. Louis. The knife is in great shape, but could use a bit of cleaning..

Thanks Skip. I saw that about Camillus making the knives. I also read that Joseph Lipic sold advertising knives, so that makes sense to have that tie in. Thanks for the info..

I picked this one up in a group of knives recently. It is tip bolstered jack, 3 and 1/2 inches in length, with what is likely celluloid scales. I have seen many and own a few folders that have the only marking "Made in USA", without any indication of who actually made it. This one is similar, but instead is only marked "Made in America". Probably made in USA, although technically it could have been made anywhere in the western hemisphere, south, central or north America. Camillus made tip bolstered knives and sold them under various names, so maybe Camillus made?

However, it did get added to my general, advertising(?), pocket knife collection. It is a The Ideal, two blades, one tang stamp, two springs, 3 1/8" closed, tipped bolsters, advertising(?), pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "The Ideal (written) (over) U.S.A." The main handle side (VERY FAINT) says, "K(?) CROCKER(?) " The other handle side does not say anything, it is blank. The main blade does have a WEAK half stop. The main blade does have an OK opening snap. The main blade does have an OK closing snap. The secondary blade does NOT have a half stop. The secondary blade does have an OK opening snap. The secondary blade does have an OK closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in FAIR condition. It did require a little cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. I did NOT buy the group or lot of pocket knives to obtain this particular pocket knife. But, it did get added to my general, pocket knife accumulation. It is an Imperial, one blade, one tool (a file), two tang stamps, 2 1/4" closed, tipped bolsters, advertising, lobster or gentlemans', pattern or style of pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "Imperial (with crown) (over) PROV. R.I." with a vertical "USA" on the side. The tool front tang stamp says, "Imperial (with crown) (over) STAINLESS (over) U.S.A." The main handle side says nothing, it is blank. The other handle side says, "RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION - BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C." The main blade does NOT have a half stop. The main blade does NOT have an opening snap. The main blade does NOT have a closing snap. The tool does NOT have a half stop. The tool does NOT have an opening snap. The tool does have an OK closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

Yesterday morning, this fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife, arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I purchased. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. I did NOT buy the group or lot of pocket knives to obtain this particular pocket knife. However, it did get added to my general, pocket knife accumulation. It is an UNBRANDED, one blade, 2 3/4" closed (not including the loop or ring), tipped bolsters, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. I can NOT find any trace of any stamp(s) or marking(s) anywhere on this pocket knife. This blade does have a SOFT half stop. This blade does have an OK opening snap. This blade does have a GOOD closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning at all.
I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

It is a SOLINGEN, two blades, one tang stamp, 3 5/8" closed, mother of pearl handles or scales, tipped bolsters, one spring, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "SOLINGEN" with a logo above it. The main handle side (written) says, "Karlsbad" (EUROPE). The other handle side says, "15/1 1912" (January 15, 1912). This location and date was special to someone. The one handle side scale has a piece missing. The secondary blade is out of alignment with the spring. The main blade does have a SOFT half stop. The main blade does have an OK opening snap. The main blade does have an OK closing snap. The secondary blade does NOT have a half stop. The secondary blade does NOT have an opening snap. The secondary blade does NOT have a closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is still in GOOD condition. It did NOT need any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

Pocket Knife #1. It is an IMPERIAL, two blades, one tang stamp, 2 3/4" closed, tipped bolsters, one spring, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "IMPERIAL (over) PROV., R.I." The main blade does NOT have a half stop. The main blade does NOT have an opening snap. The main blade does NOT have a closing snap. The secondary blade does NOT have a half stop. The secondary blade does NOT have an opening snap. The secondary blade does NOT have a closing snap. This pocket knife is in GOOD condition. This pocket knife did need some minor cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

If this pocket knife had a bail, it doesn't now. The main blade does have an OK half stop. The main blade does have an OK opening snap. The main blade does have an OK closing snap. This pocket knife is in GOOD condition. This pocket knife did need some minor cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

The secondary blade does have an OK opening snap. The secondary blade does have an OK closing snap.This pocket knife is in GOOD condition. This pocket knife needed minor cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

Digging through dad’s stuff and found this very fine sample of a tipped bolster.

A few days ago, my trip to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my general, CAMILLUS, pocket knife accumulation. It is a CAMILLUS "60", three blades (one has a file), 3 1/8" closed, two tang stamps, milled liners, fancy springs, tip bolsters, "split spring", "whittler", pattern or style of pocket knife. YES, I KNOW IT IS NOT A TRUE SPLIT SPRING pocket knife! The main blade front tang stamp (short line) says, "CAMILLUS (over) NEW YORK (over) USA" The main blade back tang stamp says, "60" The main blade does have a SOFT half stop. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade does have a SOFT half stop. The secondary blade does NOT have an opening snap. The secondary blade does have a GOOD closing snap. The third blade does have a SOFT half stop. The third blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The third blade does have a GOOD closing snap. This pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning. I just wiped it off.

ALSO.....According to the 1946 CAMILLUS catalog, the CAMILLUS "60" is called a "DE LUXE SENATOR PEN KNIFE."
With some MINOR additional research, it appears that the "60", at some point, became the more familiar
"stockman" pattern, was called "Old Smoothie " and again at some point, evolved into the "61" I could NOT
find a "60" listed after 1978. The pattern number, NOT the pocket knife itself. There is ROOM FOR ERROR
in my findings, so.....
