Here's a 50Y I recently received

I just picked up this Blade Opener. marked Ulster Quality. Wish I could find more old blade openers. I have been looking for one marked Cattaraugus for a long time!!!

Here is one I picked up on ebay. It has a nice etch and have only seen another etched like it and it is in this thread. I always thought that the etch was for Empire Knives??? Knife looks right to me.

Nice opener! I collect them myself. The Cattaraugus is a hard one to find. David Anthony sent me a pearl handled Cattaraugus awhile back. I have seen a picture of an all metal one. It looks kind of like a fishing reel wrench. I'm still hunting for that one. I've got some duplicates in my collection that I would be willing to trade, if you have any extra's. Mark.

The knife was made for Supplee Hardware Co. Philadelphia Pa., this was their trademark, not Ulster or Empire.

I have that same etching on a Pennsylvania Knife Co. knife dated late 1800's Mine's no where's as clear though. As usual Dimitri is spot on with his comment about Supplee.

The spear is tight and super snappy still and the pen is tight and about a 3-4 in the snappy range. I really like this one and will probably tote her a bit, just fer fun. Is this one in that late 1800's, some odd, to earlyish 1900's, teens er twentys range ? I don't really care but age is always of interest

Back a couple pages Mike showed an Ulster knife with the Supplee Biddle & King Hdw. Co. etch.


Evidently the company was called "Supplee Biddle & King Hdw. Co" during the time the crown etch was being used. The name has changed many times over the years.

Here is a very good reference on the hardware co. and it shows the same king`s crown that was used on the etch.

Picked up this one a couple weeks ago. Its seen a grinder or two and had plenty of use but still functions great

Man I can't find a can anywhere Are those knives correct to the period??
