This is one of my favorite knives R7973. Somebody tried to sharpen it but still good condition.

luckydog is an apt name for a person with a Schrade Cut Co R7973.

Beautiful example of a rare knife.

WOW, luckydog that is an early Schrade Cut! I think that is right after the arched Schrade Cut tang stamp. This is before peachseed jigging was used. Probably about the time George Schrade invented his jigging machine. Sort of a scalloped jigging pattern right after the pick bone and before the peachseed jigging. NYKC has a similar but slightly different jigging pattern but still a sort of scalloped look maybe produced by the George Schrade jigging machine also. Anyway spectacular early and scarce to find example

I think this knife is a pattern 2173 at 3 5/8" closed and would imagine it being a special factory order (SFO) knife makes it rare. The tangs are all marked Schrade Cut. Co. Walden NY. I'm thinking the peachseed jigging indicates later in the Cut Co era. Corrections to rarity, pattern number, or age are welcomed. As far I as I can tell the knife is in original condition with areas of age-related carbon staining.
Both sides of the knife have a shield that is engraved with G. Whitfield Richards Phila. This link references the company
http://richardsapex.com/about/index.html. The name of the company is now different due to a merger. Thanks for looking.

I have one just like that too. Also seen several before. They are beautiful Schrade Cut Co. Jacks and the peachseed handles are gorgeous! My reckoning is the pick bone came first followed by what I call a scalloped jig bone and then the peachseed jig bone. I think there was also another pattern between the scalloped and peachseed some call a sort of basket weave jigging pattern that was short lived. Jerry, very nice photo layout and presentation

Here's one from the Schrade delrin years. It's an ugly duckling compared to many in this awesome thread but they are frustratingly hard to find.
This SC507 scrim pattern was done and re-done and re-done again (SC705) so there tons of knives out there that look close to this one. It is very rare to find these first "Scrimshaw Bear Paw" examples with four (small) pins and an LB7 stamped blade as shown in the 1981 flyer.

Thanks. The7606 shackle is as thin as it is tiny due to it having no liners at all. Just the two ultra-thin slabs of nacre. That kind of suprised me so I thought I'd mention it.

Thanks for posting the nice lobsters. 8683T would certainly qualify as rare imo.
I just purchased a New York Knife Co. MOP lobster that looks super close to the Schrade 849, 8683T etc "Sleeveboard Lobster" pattern. Main blade has long pull just like the Schrade. When it arrives I will compare to see if they are exactly the same. It makes me wonder who copied who.
Since it looks so close to a Schrade and because Imperial Schrade eventually ended up using some NYKC stamps etc (Hammer Brand and SMKW SFOs) I will include it here for reference. If someone knows more about my NYKC lobster please let me know. I've learned quite a bit about Schrade knives but I don't know much about NYKC models and ages. Any NYKC catalogs online? I know they closed in 1931 so it's older than that and newer than 1865.
ps I just found the attachment tab. Now that's easier than uploading to gallery and copying BBCode. DOH!

Schrade Walden 208 Gaffer -
Here's something you don't see everyday. The knife comes from the estate of a Schrade employee. It appears to be a Schrade 208Y Fishermans Pal that was widened to a triple spring and then re-handled in a thinner marine pearl celluloid. The hand made gaff looks like it was fabricated from a knife spring. There's an old thread on BF in which LT describes a knife like this as being the prototype of the Ulster gaff knife ordered up by Uncle Henry after a fishing trip with Ted Williams, so of course I checked with him first but he thinks it's unlikely this is that knife. It's possible that it could be another prototype but I think there's probably a better case for it being the coolest damn lunchbox special to ever sneak out of the factory

The gaff knife and the typesetter are certainly uncommon and great posts. Are you sure that typesetter is off an 891 frame? It looks like an 890, which is VERY different.

I consider this knife both "RARE" and "ODD."
The main blade tang is dual stamped. Look at it with the blade pointed up, it
says SCHRADE over WALDEN over N.Y. U.S.A. Look at it with the blade pointed
down, it says KINGSTON over U.S.A. The pattern # (stamped) is 766.

Could they have used an old stamp from the defunct Kingston line to mark this knife as a defective item?

I have no idea.

You would think that if it was defective, they would just toss it or maybe XXX out the original stamp.
No matter why it is the way it is, it makes a nice conversation piece.
